Cheapest brake upgrade ever!

I've had my 88 GTA since 1996 and the braking situation has slowly deteriorated over the years to the point where I was afraid to drive in traffic, because if someone came to a sudden stop, I wasn't sure I could stop in time. I threw all kind of money at the problem; new brakes, new rotors, new lines, master cylinder, proportioning valve, you name it. None of it improved my poor braking. I happened to catch a Youtube video last week that showed how to replace the stock spring in your proportioning valve to a 19 lb. spring. I bought the spring for a buck (actually $5 for 5 of them on Amazon) and my buddy and I put it in and bled the brakes this weekend. What a tremendous difference! I feel like I could stop in an emergency! Start to finish, it took us about 20 minutes to install the new spring and bleed the brakes. It's definitely worth the money!

Thanks for the original link Bob. I’ve searched all over this board trying to find a cure for my brake issues. I posted about 4 years ago asking for suggestions and I was never able to satisfactorily solve the problem. I was almost to the point of buying a whole new system when I stumbled onto this video last week. A one dollar part made all the difference in the world with my braking performance. I actually took the GTA to work today for my daily commute, which is 60 miles round trip through Las Vegas traffic and everything worked the way it should! Couldn’t be happier!
