Re: 1987 iroc for sale 2800 1987 was the last year for the carb engines. In 1987 the only carb motor you could get in the Z28 or the IROC was the LG4. The LG4 was available from 1982-1987. In 1985 you could get the L69, LB9, or LG4. Although there were not as many L69 cars produced as there were in 1984. In 1986 GM restricted the L69 engines. There were only 74 L69 engines produced for that model year. The LB9 (with the LG4 camshaft now) was available, as was the LG4 motor. In 1987 the L69 engine was dropped all together. The LB9 version was available with two different camshafts. The LG4 was also available and this was its final year. This was also the year that the L98 was introduced. From 1988 on up, all engines were fuel injected - the LO3, LB9, L98. Starting in 1988 the base engine was the throttle body injected LO3. The LO3 was also the base engine in the IROC from 1988-1989. Starting in 1990 the base engine became the LB9. The L98 was only available in the IROC's between 1987-1990. In 1991 when they brought the Z28 back (after the IROC was dropped) you could pick from the LB9 or the L98. The RS was available with the V6 or the L03.
