You've got to decide / find out if the cost of repairs is greater than the cost to simply replace the radio; & that will depend on the type of radio you've got. If the face-plate is busted up - probably better off just getting a replacement.

As an elex tech, I'm telling you that you probably will pay a pro $30+ per hour to pull that thing apart, figure out what's wrong with it, and maybe get new parts. Worse, internal schematics will likely be difficult to find. Open it up, if you see anything that is obviously broken (open) or fried, then maybe you're in luck. Otherwise John (above) is right: you'll be ahead by looking for an operable replacement. Best of luck!

I tried replacing blown capacitors on one of mine -- had the whole thing disassembled and was able to get it all back together fine, but ended up burning up the circuit board when soldering, and now it's basically a paperweight.

Unless you have a lot of experience soldering on very small electronics and some specialized equipment, I'd strongly recommend having a pro rebuild it for you. The pins on everything are just too close together for an amateur electronics repair guy like myself.

I ended up getting another one rebuilt from an eBay seller and am very happy with it, but 84TA on here can probably assist as well, as long as you don't need it back ASAP.

When the audio went on my stock stereo I asked at a local repair shop and was told repair parts were no longer available. But there is a member ob this board who has parts and can do it. https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/member.php?u=10690 Unfortunately the shipping costs back and forth from Canada eliminated that option for me. I ended up buying a stereo from someone on this board, but while it worked, the display was funky and it took a long time to become visible. Another option is junk yards, but you don't know what you're getting and may have to take it back. I finally found one on eBay from a later model 3rd gen Firebird and had to buy a harness adapter. As for the cassette not working, it's usually just a broken belt, easily replaced if you're handy.

Ya',..... I quit waiting for my radio over a year ago. No offense intended here; just making the suggestion that you guys might want to double check on the quality of your referrals before recommending them to others.

My apologies for the bad recommendation; just trying to send business to a board member if possible.

At any rate, I can vouch for this guy who rebuilds/sells radios on eBay. Had him rebuild the radio for my '91 RS, works as good as new, decent turnaround time (couple weeks), and very reasonable on pricing. Just send him a message on there with your needs.

I don't know if it's okay edicate to piggyback off someone else's post but I'm currently having trouble with my radio it's ejecting tapes anytime I put them in

Jump on Google, and try searching for some combination of Delco Blaupunkt tape deck drive belt. What usually happens is the belt dries out and breaks, but sometimes you replace the belts and it still doesn't work because of another problem.

These guys are legit and have a large stock of parts to fix old Delco radios. I thought the price was reasonable as well. Give them a call if you want to send it out.

Thanks for that link, I need to send my radio out and have the power button repaired/replace since it has all but quit powering up the radio and really like this radio with built in equalizer.

You probably already know this but I say it in case anyone else (like me) didn't know - the power must be on or the tape will pop back out. The tape auto ejects too when you shut it off.


For the OP: I found TGO member "John in RI" a great communicator/vendor and he found me a nice original radio. I recommend you give him a shout.
