CD Player Stolen

Aiwa CDC-MP3, retail $350.
Right out of my driveway.
My dad borrowed my car cuz his nissan broke down (alternator). So he was driving mine for a few days. Well he didnt lock the doors like I always do. Someone came to my house with the intent to steal. Wires were cut cleanly, CD player was removed. Filed a police report, and cops are coming out any minute to talk to me. I feel like walking around town with a hammer, and looking in every car for my CD player.

Got a police report, and he said there had been a rash of misdemeanors in my nieghborhood, including smashed mailboxes. He said there was a party down the road, and I think I know exactly who's party it was. I'm gonna take a walk down there later with my trusty hammer.

I want a car alarm with motion sensor, fcking loud alarm, and a remote pager so I can tell if my alarm is going off at work, etc. I've seen a car alarm like this before but the pager was as big as my cell phone, heh.

DuffMan 07-21-2001 07:45 PM

Sorry to hear about the car :-(

Here is what I have and it works great, I think, although a little pricey I think, but it came with my car. It's a Viper alarm with motion sensing. This serves to protect the stereo stuff and the T-Tops. If you get inside the car it will start beeping and if you keep screwing around in there it goes off. Also, I have a LED on my console that will keep flashing to let me know when I get back that someone was doing something. I suggest this system to everybody I know. Good luck!

Sorry OneEye https://www.thirdgen.org/messgboard/frown.gif
Ive had sevral head units stolen car alaram didnet do squat to detour them either.
I would stay home and let the police handle the situation "yea like they ever do anything https://www.thirdgen.org/messgboard/rolleyes.gif" although I understand why you might want to go on a rampage its not worth the hospital bill or the court cost even if the hospital bill isnt yours https://www.thirdgen.org/messgboard/wink.gif. Chalk it up as learning experiance and have your dad buy you a new one.

I'm a vigilante :P

Duffman, do you think you could get that product number on the Viper? How much does it actually cost? I'm gonna have my dad split the cost with me.

MADOGIROC 07-21-2001 09:51 PM

I say get tinted windows and keyless entry so its much easier to lock up

One Eyed Jack 07-21-2001 10:48 PM

side window tint is illegal here.
Yet the hatch is tinted to like 20%
its my dad's fault anyway.
He didnt lock the doors, and wouldnt have locked them even if there was a remote

David Culpepper 07-21-2001 11:46 PM

Sorry to here about that man, I know it sucks bad. I installed a new alarm in mine that has keyless entry. It automatically locks the doors and turns the alarm on after 30 seconds. A lot of the new alarms come with this feature. I think it is called passive alarm or something like that. It works great, but if a theif is determined enough an alarm of any kind ain't gonna stop him. Thats just the kinda messed up world we live in today.

I know what you mean

Same thing basically happened to me about 2 months ago. Car parked in front of my house at 5:30 AM, some kid throws a rock through the drivers window and tried to rip my Panasonic something or other out. Meanwhile, dad gets up to take an AM piss and sees my domelight on... Opens the front door and sees the back of a head dissapear betweenthe houses. He didn't get it though, just managed to PHuk it up bad enough where i needed a new on. (Go full coverage!) CD wouldn't eject on its own power, etc. It just pisses me off people can be so bold as to do it right in your driveway! BTW i modded my mounting kit so you can't take the in dash out without unbolting the kit from the dash, i think thats what saved it, not like it mattered in the end...

Anyway i've been thinkin alarm too, time to read some posts.

OneEyedJack,

Viper, Sidewinder, and Python alarms are all made by DEI, and they ususally have the same features and sell for the same price.

A good, basic alarm from any of those names should run you $200-250 installed. There's one that comes with remote start and a couple of other extra features for $400 installed.

The Field Disturbance Sensor, usually referred to as a proximity sensor, should run about $130 installed. Figure on another $20-30 to add remote trunk release. You can get an additional "pain generator" siren to be mounted inside the car for about $15. You can buy a backup battery for around $40, but the best option would be to buy a siren that has the backup battery built in. You can also pay extra for a pager, for the alarm to roll up your windows...the options are almost endless.

And like David Culpepper said, you can set just about any brand of alarm up for passive arming, so it locks automatically...great for when your father uses the car. The only downside is that if you leave the keys inside the car, you'll get locked out.

Whatever alarm you get, don't shop around by brand...shop for an installer. Any alarm you get is only as effective as its installation. You want an installer who will hide the main alarm unit somewhere creative, and disguise all of his wiring with loom, tape, et cetera. If you can reach up under the dash, undo one zip tie and the entire alarm falls into your lap, it's useless.

One Eyed Jack 07-22-2001 01:07 PM

I've seen a guy who had four big sirens in his car, one in each corner https://www.thirdgen.org/messgboard/smile.gif It was said to be 140 db.

Here's what I'm bidding on. It's dutch, so get in while you can.

Anyone who knows much about alarms have a comment on this one. It seems real cheap and for the price I am almost positive that I want one if I can get a proximity sensor or what ever so that I can guard my t-tops and hatch. Thanks for any help with deciding to buy now or hold off and thanks to One Eyed Jack for bringing this to my attention.
