Bogs at 4000 rpms

I really want to run my car at the track this week for the first time when it opens but I can't seem to track down this bogging problem above 4000 rpms. It's hard to describe, but as best I can it feels like a rev limiter. In second gear, it comes on at a lower RPM, maybe 3500. I've changed the fuel pump 3 times, I've tried a stock 305 mechanical, a new Summit mechanical and another new stock 350 mechanical.
Everything is new, with about 4000 miles, including the entire ignition system, fuel system and engine parts.. I've thought it could be carb tune, but don't know enough about it to tell. I thought it might be the secondaries aren't set right but I don't know how to check that. I also don't know if my timing is set right, but can timing cause that kind of problem with a vacuum advance distributor?

Car info:
10.5:1 compression
Comp Cams Magnum 280H cam kit
Ported & Polished Iron Heads
Edelbrock Performer RPM intake manifold
Edelbrock 750 CFM 4bbl carburetor

Thanks! :)

yes if you timming is off it can do that another thing to cheack would be your power valve if you have had any "POPS" trough the intake

Is this bog happening at wot? Could be your fuel pressure dropping off at high rpm. Plumb a pressure gage into the fuel line at the carb inlet, run the line out from under the hood and duct tape the gage to the windshield where you can see it and take a spin. The fuel pressure should remain stable and not drop off. I had a similar problem in an 86 T/A with a mild 350. The solution,(thanks Damon), was to mount an electric fuel pump back by the tank and use it as a booster for the mechanical pump. The mechanical pump regulates the final pressure to the carb. The fuel pressure remains a constant 6 psi right to 6000 rpm. Hope this helps.

I don't know all that much about the Edelbrock carbs, but I had a problem that sounds like yours after having a quadrajet rebuilt, the float wasn't set correctly and it would accelerate to about 3500 rpms great and then drop to a moderate idle until you let off the gas. Don't know if that helps you out or not.
