finally got my Z28 running well i got my Z28 running tonite, and i have a few questions i started her up and the headers quickly became extremely hot............i didnt let her run long enough for them to glow red i believe this might be because 1: i might have flooded the engine a little when i was setting up the ignition system........fuel still burning in the headers....... OR 2. i didnt set the timing yet tonite, i am going to do that tomorow night.....this and a combination of stale gas.........the gas in the tank is a year old....going to put some fresh gas in too tomrow night which theory sounds most accurate? also, whats a good system to keep the spark plug wires off the headers with centerbolt valve covers? the numbers are rubbed off of my timing pointer............which one is 0* TDC? (the timing pointer is stock 87 LG4 timing pointer) my timing light has digital advance (friggin thing better, cost me $250) so i just need to know 0* TDC thanx folks |
Most likely timing too advanced. Center of tab is TDC 0. |
Timing. FLooding out will clear almost immediately once the engine fires. Usually red-glowing headers are a sign of retarded timing. |
