quadrajet choke wire

Theres a blue wire coming off the choke on my Qadrajet. It hanisnt been connected since i got the car, im wondering where it goes to. I was told any power source but im not sre if im better off connecting it to the battery like they said at Advance or to the ignition coil.

It is a dedicated circuit, energized by a relay inside the car.

You don't want to connect it to the coil, as the choke thermostat coil will draw down power from the ignition. You don't want it connected to the battery, because then the choke would always be open, even when the engine itself is cold (whoever told you that should be banned from ever giving car repair advice again for the rest of their life). It needs to be connected to switched 12v source, and the way the factory did it keeps the choke thermostat from getting power unless the engine is running and the alternator charging the battery.

Are you talking this blue wire? This wire is attached to the passenger side of the Q-Jet on my '86. It then disappears in to a wire loom.

To a switched +12v location. Theres a couple in your fuse block.

Why not connect it back to where it is supposed to go?

probably got cut because of a malfunctioning relay...

just like installing any after market carb w electric choke it needs 12v. DO NOT HOOK IT TO THE DISTRIBUTOR ITS ONLY 9 VOLTS!!. it wont work right. holley recommends your windshield wiper motor, its 12v and comes on w/ the ign key.or get the haynes camaro book, and check the wiring diagram in the back pges.

Re: quadrajet choke wire

Two wire connection is for the Mixture Control Solenoid (MCS) these wires come out of the ECM harness that originates from the passenger footwell (above hush panel) and enters the bay through the fender near the blower.

Choke wire comes out of the engine harness from the firewall connector near the brake booster.

Best to hook everything back up as it's supposed to be. Rather than hacking 'alternate' work arounds.
