Victor Jr. Intake Hey whats up guys. I just got a 84 z28 and i got a question about the intake Im considering using. The motor in it is trashed, i got a 4-bolt main 350 and I found a GREAT deal on a Victor Jr. i just wanted to ask a some questions about it. Im planning on keeping it fairly stock for now. Will this intake be good for street use? I got a 650 edelbrock, should that be good or go 700? i wont be dogging on the motor just get on it here and there. Thanks in advance |
Re: Victor Jr. Intake I am running a Victor Jr. with a 650 Holley on a .040 over 350 with Trick flow small Chevy Street/Bracket Super 23 Engine KIt . The Victor is designed for racing to make power between 3500 and 8500 rpms. I do drive the car on the street but it really likes to make power between 3000 and 7000 rpms and shifting at 7000 kind of makes a scene on the street. From what I understand you are supposed to match your cam and your intake for maximum performance. Summit racing equipment's tech line 1 330 630 0240 should be able to point you in the right direction. I told them what I wanted to accomplish and they told me what to buy. The end result was better than what I expected. |
Re: Victor Jr. Intake Do not buy it. It is not what you want. If you want a new intake get a performer rpm. You want a dual plane, not a single. |
Re: Victor Jr. Intake :yup: |
"Fairly stock engine" and "Victor Jr." do not belong together in the same sentence. Have you looked at the specs for the Victor Jr.? If not, take a gander here: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/EDL-2975/ Note the powerband - 3500-8000 RPMs. A "fairly stock" 350 will rev to about 5000 RPMs. That would give you an effective powerband of 1500 RPMs, with a "dead spot" from idle to 3500 RPMs - not a street-friendly configuration. I also can't imagine putting an Edelbrock carb on a Victor Jr. intake, but in general I seem to have more qualms about using Edelbrock carbs than the average bear. |

Re: Victor Jr. Intake need , cam , 3.73-4.10 gears , higher compression ratio , 2800-3200 stall converter to make that intake work right and at that point the 650 carb will be useless or at least a top end limiter not trying to piss on your parade but less is more some times plenty of 450+hp sbc running dual planes |
Re: Victor Jr. Intake Yes, I learned this the hard way. If you're looking for something that will have low end torque, that is NOT the way to go. I put a similar intake on an 86 Chevy full size. I could drive it on the street just fine with a 2400 stall, but my Cam was a Single profile .218@.050. I had craploads of top end, but no get up and go. |
Re: Victor Jr. Intake Alright thanks guys for saving me on that one. One of my dads buddy's hooked me up with some performance parts being a edelbrock performer intake, brand new heads, comp cam, comp cam lifters, roller rocker arms, and moroso valve covers. All have roughly 50 miles on them or a tank and half of gas on em(most of it was idling) for $350 :) motor build is in progress |
What heads? Need specifics. If he told you "2.02 heads", that is about as bad the news could be that I can imagine. Get the casting #'s off of them and let us know what they are. And the cam. Need specifics. The cam equivalent to "2.02 heads" is "3/4" or "race cam". "RV cam" is also in the running. |
Re: Victor Jr. Intake 280 dur .480 lift comp cam he said the heads was of a 80s GM truck ill get casting numbers tomorrow I been busy ripping my z apart. |

I'll wait for the actual casting #'s, but my initial reaction is he should pay you to take them off of his hands. |
Re: Victor Jr. Intake The casting number on the head is 462624. |
Re: Victor Jr. Intake From what I found: 462624 350 76-87 1.94/1.50 2.02/1.60 76cc Crack prone Basically these heads are good if you are rebuilding your high mileage truck motor and the heads were already refreshened. But for any kind of build where you want to upgrade what you have, these are not the heads you want. |
Re: Victor Jr. Intake Yeh i read that too, but they're been rebuilt. the been decked, new valves, new springs, new retainers. |
Re: Victor Jr. Intake 1 Attachment(s) |
Re: Victor Jr. Intake i dont think that is a good place for a crankcase vent! |

What is wrong with the heads you have? If they are completely ruined, or if if they will take a lot of money to get them runable, then those 624s would be fine on a stock rebuild if you were going very low budget. That cam and those heads are not going to work good together. |

The casting number on the head is 462624. $50 for the intake, $50 for the cam/lifters, $75 for the rockers, minus the disposal cost for the heads. I wouldn't give him more than $150 for what he's offering. |
Re: Victor Jr. Intake Everything is BRAND NEW. Well worth more than 150$. The rocker alone from jegs is $180 cam and lifters were $180. |
Re: Victor Jr. Intake Installed and ran is not "Brand New". Especially on a flat tappet cam. If you are flat broke, then sell the cam, get a stock replacement, put those heads on, get the engine running, and expect nothing but a 180hp stock motor. If you want more, then you need to use different heads. |

Re: Victor Jr. Intake Sounds like we're getting further and further away from that Victor Junior. |
