Issues with carb swap

Recently picked up an 86 camaro that originally had a 305 tpi, it’s now a 350 with a Edelbrock carb.
At first glance, everything looked to be okay, but now that I’ve had some time with it, I’m noticing some problems.

First thing is the fuel pump. It has a mechanical pump on the block but I’m pretty sure the in tank pump is still there. Is this a good idea to leave it like that? I didn’t think a mechanical pump could suck through a dead pump.

Next is the fan control. Electric fans ran to a single switch installed in the dash. Any recommended kits that control them automatically?

Last is the TCC lockup. I don’t think this functions but something is connected to the transmissions electrical connector and it looks like there some sort of switch screwed into the outside of the transmission. I’ve never seen this before and I have no idea if it is actually working.

Thanks!

Re: Issues with carb swap

Hey, I recently bought a 88 Iroc-Z, and it has a 305 that was switched from injection to carburation, and i just got the fans switched from a switch in the dash to a temperature sensor in the engine. the sensor hooks straight up to the stock fan relays. I'll send photos later today.

A quick look at the stickies of this forum shows a typical electronic pump to carb pick up

As for the fan switch I am glad you are fixing it. Honestly I wish I could smack everyone who installs a dash switch. You can do something like this to wire up an automatic fan

Re: Issues with carb swap

Ive seen (and experienced) a mechanical pump sucking through a dead pump. But this might not be the case 100% of the time.

If it was TPI then the pump in the tank is probably going to be pushing harder than the max pressure on the carb. If the mech is in good condition and has a fully functioning return then this *might* not be an issue.

Fans i've been through aswell and in Australia we use the Davies Craig thermatic switches. Theyre pretty good units. Not sure what the equivalent would be in the states.

Ive actually still got a toggle aswell, just in case i want to put the fans on manually. this is rareloy the case though.

Here are the photos of my wiring for the temp gauge for the fans.

I would move the sensor to the heads they tend to run a bit hotter and you want your fan to turn on in relation to them
