E4me carburetor adjustment?

New here on the carburetor forum section. I have a 86 camaro berlinetta 305 V8 with A/T. Have a e4me carburetor on the car. When I start car cold it takes some pumping and when the engine does turn over it idles very fast and high. I will run the car for 2 min or so then give some gas and the car will idle normally and smoothly. My mechanic said he adjusted the carb. But I don't like the way I have to start the car never had to idle that long. Don't know much about carburetor adjustments. But why is the car idle so high on startup? Someone here on TGO please let know what's going on here.

That IS how chokes on carburetors work. I see you are in California. How cold is it that the choke is working?

I don't like the high idle on a cold start. Car never did that before. I mean it idles way too fast for my liking.

Re: E4me carburetor adjustment?

There is a large Black plastic/Bakelite round choke on the side of the carb. loosening and rotating one way increases the effect of the choke (sounds like thats what he has done) the other decreases it.

Sadly since i ripped mine off the carb years ago, i cannot for the life of me remember which way is which. But i think if you rotate it one way, the choke door will close, go the opposite way from that...

CCW = more choke. CW = less choke.
Again, what temperatures are we talking about?
The choke coil might be fine where it is set right now, you could always lower the rpm with the fast idle screw.
That setting should be close to 2200 rpm. It's on the underhood sticker.

Update : replaced the airhorn on my e4me carburetor. Now car drives and runs like an F body Chevrolet should. Who knows what was wrong with the other airhorn. But thanks to all the replys.
