Quick question...

I'm swapping in a carb. I used to have TPI. I'm planning on getting a mechanical fuel pump and a AFPR. The thing is, I DONT want to take off the the fuel tank to remove the old electric pump.

Can I still hook up the mechanical pump and disable the electrical pump? The fuel would travel through the electrical pump to the mechanical pump. Would this cause any problems?

Also, does my cam work with a mechanical pump? I have an 86 LB9... will it make it work?

Thanks https://www.thirdgen.org/messgboard/smile.gif

it is probably easier to get a fuel regulator and just use your electric pump.you might be able to use the tpi regulator,I'm not sure as tpi is a grey area for me.

Many of the guys on the board have used the Mallory 3 port regulator with great success in applications just like yours. Adjusts from 50 all the way down to 3 PSI and allows you to still run a bypass line (which your high pressure TPI pump needs to live a long a happy life). You'll want about 6 PSI for almost any carb application.

$74 from Summit. Part number MAA-4309.

I agree with Damon.. I did it that way too. Sure made it a lot easier. Works well to, just DO NOT use teflon tape to seal the threads. Goto ACE hardware get some thread sealing paste for fuels and oils. I'm using the Mallory 3 port, works pretty good. I have it set to 5 psi now.

hey, I did this swap and my tpi pump seems to be going out, can I just put and in-line electrical pump on and leave the tpi pump in the tank, but disabled. Will the electic in-line pull through the stock pump if the stock pump has no power ? Thanks guys

Why are you swapping to carb? I'm curious because I'm about to swap to TPI, but am having second thoughts. Was it too much of a pain?

ACE is the place...

You need pipe Joint Compound, Teflon tape is for Natural Gas! Not liquids!
( altho it mostly works )

I just don't have enough money for TPI mods https://www.thirdgen.org/messgboard/frown.gif Everything is so damn expensive. So, it's cheaper to go faster with a carb.
