88 Convertible Question

I just purchased an 88 Iroc Convertible. The lever that releases the back of the convertbile top from the tonneau cover is broken/snapped off. I checked with Hawks and Thirgenresource has the release lever for 89 to 92 convertibles (they don't carry the one that works for 87 to 88). Any ideas on getting a replacement?

looking at a friends 87 vert, it looks extremely similar to the stock one that was on my vert....

all it has to do is hold the end of the cable and pull it.... the later model ones can work fine for you....

heh when mine broke, rather then looking for a replacement, i just made one out of billet alum... i had access to a mill at the time ( i wish i still had access to one :( )

personally i just think the stock handle is a bad design.. its too weak... puts too much stress on that tiny area where the "stick" attaches to the "cup"

88 was indeed different. Want to know what the real kicker is? They changed the vert top and pieces twice in 88. So it all depends on if you have the second half of the year (like me) or the first half of the year. The first half is more like the 87's. I have a few pieces, send me a pic of what it is exactly you are looking for.

if you had the large, square handle break free from the wimpy, 1/4" square rod part, i may have a solution. take it apart and out of the car.

then drill a hole though the broken parts, along the lengthwise-axis of the 1/4" long piece. get a screw with wide threads (drywall screws work well). then fill with epoxy and screw together, making sure not to clog up the part that holds the cable.

worked for me, and has been going for 2 years. saved a $90 cable from the dealer...
