under heating?

ok i had recently replaced my rad cleaned out all the junk etc... and well my car runs around 40-50 degrees celcius now, after running the car for 2 hrs you can almost hold the large rad hose up top. im just wondering if heard that running too cool is bad for the car... etc... and ive heard about the optimal operating temp (not too sure which) but im just wondering if its running too cool or not a prob.

Well 40-50 C is about 100-120 F

Yeah it is overcooling..Optimum operating temp is about 180-190.
Did you add any coolant additives? This happened to me once. The car was running about 110 on the highway and it turned out to be my thermostat was stuck open.Check and replace thermostat and then see the results.

well i did put in royal purple but that was a long time ago, since my rad blew and leaked all over the place and new coolant is in there now with maybe.... just MAYBe small traces of it left. i had also replaced the thermostat in in a few months prior to adding in royal purple maybe 6 months ago now.

beofre with my old rad i was running to hot. debris etc... rad blocked not getting proper fluid through, so i had replaced it with a new one.
but i can check the thermostat again see if that does anything, but other then that im clueless at the momenet on what to do

Well since you replaced the radiator. There should be fresh coolant and no traces of royal purple.I still think to check the thermostat.

Do you have a high flow water pump or something?
Whats the climate like where you live?

curtis84ta 02-17-2005 04:59 PM

i do not belive its a high flow water pump its just a stock replacement i belive, im in canada so the weathers a lil cool now,
negative x degrees now days, lately its been around 0

If it's that cold, then the operationg temp sounds about right.
