After almost 2 years I have completed my DIY WBo2 kit.

I know that the led light needs to be on while the engine is running or it will cause damage to the sensor.

I have the hot wire pluged into the fuse box where it is only hot in the run position. When I turn the key on and wait for the red light I can feel the sensor getting hot but the light doesn't come on, I can crank the engine and as soon as it starts the light comes on.( I do not have the sensor in the exhaust pipe, its in free air)

Does the controller wait for the volts to get above 12 before it turns the light on?

Also I remember on the website (thats no longer there) that I can add resistors if it takes too long to heat up.

Do I need to add resistors to correct my problem?
If so, do I add them to R4? if not r4 then where?
How much more did it take for you guys to get it right?

Thanks in advance for the help, may after this I will have everything ready to start tuning.

The LED will not turn on with just the key on & engine not running. It does this because it needs a slightly higher voltage to light the LED (alternator spinning).

The suggested time for O2 warm-up is 45 seconds. Too fast and it will destroy the heating element. I had to add some resistors in parallel with the big 1 ohm "white" output resistor. I think I added two or three 15 ohms. I can't remember exactly.
Two or three resistors is pretty much the norm.

Trying PMing user "RBob" and he can tell you exactly what the parallel resistors should be.

The good thing is that you are using the O2 safely the way it is setup now and can start tuning the way it is. The extra resistors will only help speed up the heating of the O2 and doesn't affect the accuracy of it.

Ok, that helps.

So it is ok for the engine to run a minute or less with the light not on without causing any damage.

When I would turn on the key and wait, the sensor would slowly get hot just not enough to turn on the led light, the engine runs just long enough to get the alternator charging and then the light is on.

Sounds like I'm good to go.
