What all does the ECM control?

Is there a site or thread that anyone knows of that has a VERY detailed explanation of the ECM and everything it does? Like, if a person was to swap from fuel injection to straight carb, will the ECM still be needed? Does it control anything outside of the carb?

So yea, a good site or book or thread on the details of our ECMs would be awesome if anyone knows of one.

Thanks.

Re: What all does the ECM control?

It depends on the year and vehicle.

Some years the ECM controlled just the Engine, some also controled the TCC.

Some years controlled the speedo.

Most years there was at least some emmisions control, such as EGR, and canister purge.

Some ECMs also controlled the electric fans.

The stickies above are free and very helpful. I bought a book called corvette FI and engine management 1982-2001 Charles Probst. Cronicles the changes that occurred yearly. 400 pages to read!
