ECM swap

Since some folks over in the V6 section are of little to no help or are just unwilling to help, I have a quick question here. If I wanted to swap out a possibly damaged ECM for a new one is it as simple as swapping the prom from the old one to the new one? Just a plug and go kind of thing or is there programming involved? Any info would be greatly appreciated, thanks guys!

Re: ECM swap

No programming required. Just need to move the MEMCAL over to the new ECM. To see what it looks like hit the sticky up top of this forum.

Re: ECM swap

Okay, thanks RBob! My bird is showing a code 35 and I'm wondering if the ECM is bad.

Re: ECM swap

Code 35 is due to the ECM being unable to hold the proper idle speed. Also called an IAC error. Most likely the IAC is all gummed up or there is a vacuum leak. A vacuum leak will cause a high idle, so if the idle is high and the IAC is going to zero, look into a vacuum leak.

Otherwise clean the throttle body and IAC followed by an idle learn. On the V6 board search for "idle learn" with my name as the author.

Re: ECM swap

Okay, thanks! I got outside and pulled the IAC out while still connected to the car and started the car and the IAC did fully extend so I'm not sure what to think. I ran tunerpro on it and some of the data pids concerned me. It said TPS % (in red): 255 and TPS High: Error, TPS Low: Error. But I'll get out there and try an idle learn. Thank you again for your help!

Re: ECM swap

My code 35 was caused by a bad TPS sensor, runs excellent aside from the stalling problem now. Just following up.
