4l80e I see some people using a ecm to control the 60e, anybody successful in the 80e? From what I gather, they are different enough to require difference calibration at a minimum, possible ECM. I have done some searching and see in 95 GM had the 80e behind a 16571199 ecm. I don't have that ecm in hand or a bin. Anybody confirm it did in fact control the 80e and has a bin file, and maybe ecu? Any other help on a possible ecm to control the 80e short of the TCI unit would be helpful. |
Some of the solenoids are inverted in operation between the two, so you need to use a pcm that was used with a 80E. I just been using Tunercats stuff for tuning the 7060 pcm in my truck, it had all the good stuff in the editable table areas. |
I did some more searching after that post. On my third day of looking. Discovered the 7060 is probably the better choice. Even found some bins to get started with. Back off to see if I can find the ecu file for it, as tunercat and myself always seem to fight. |

It is possible to use a 4L80E without computer. You have two solenoids and that gives you 4 forward gears. on-off on-on off-on off-off You also have a solenoid for the TCC. The TCC solenoid should have a PWM signal but it is not needed. It is only for smooth engagement. You also have the only complicated thing ... The force motor. It is controlled by a PWM signal, and it is used to lower line pressure. If you don't use it the tranny will be att full pressure all the time and have hard shifts. |
Thats pretty cool. I thought it would be more complicated then that. Well, not to say it isnt already complicated. That looks like something that could be programmed into an ecm to make a stand-alone low buck trans controller. |

Park, reverse and Neutral can only be selected with the stick just like any old automatic. The tranny has two forward modes from the stick. [D] and D. In [D] the computer can select 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th using the solenoids. You have no engine braking in 1st, 2nd or 3rd, just like on a th700r4. This is the normal driving position. In D the computer can select 1st, 2nd and 3rd solenoids. If the computer selects 4th gear it will stay i 3rd. You also have engine braking on all gears. This is the towing position. 2 and 1 on the stick is the same as D in the tranny, but it will tell the computer not to shift up any higher. If you cut all wires going to the tranny you can still drive the car. P R N [D] D 2 and 1 still works but the tranny will be locked i 2nd in all forward selections. |

Do you know if there is a def file for that ECM for tuner pro? Also, do you know if that ECM can just be used for the tranny? Do you only need to feed it signals from: speed sensor tps tach ??? I found a more common ecm. 16197427 $31 mask Got an ECU file created for it. Even got adaptor made up to mate the 80e to my transfer case. http://s94691562.onlinehome.us/albums/4l80e/aac.jpg Looks like with tunerpro 4.0 on it way soon, might need to update the ecu to the newer version. |
