Tuned Chip vs non-tuned performance?

Can someone tell me if having the chip tuned for my engine mods will in any way extend the life of the engine, vs. if my chip is not tuned correctly to my mods? Can you tell me how much HP I might gain if I have my chip tuned? (I plan on getting the LT1 cam, I already have 1.6 rocker, Edelbrock Induction, and still need to do the free mods for increased air flow)...305 TBI (LO3). I’m wondering if its worth the money to have it tuned once the cam is in, I want the engine to run STABLE and CONSISTENT, and most people say it should be tuned, thank for the help.

Yes.

Depends.

The degrees/amounts will largely depend on how well it's tuned after the work.

I'd suggest you get a scanner, and the chip burning stuff before you do the engine mods.. Trying to learn tuning, with a modified engine is ALOT harder then learning on a stocker.
