stuff needed with laptop

I am interested in using my Windows Vista laptop to monitor my 87 TA with a
305 TPI. I am looking for what program and cable I will need. I probably won't burn proms but would like to use my laptop like a scanner. I would like to see things like tps voltage, trouble codes & be able to clear them, O2 sensor info ect...
Any info anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated!!! I tried reading the stickies but couldn't really find what I was looking for.

For data logging will need an ALDL cable (2-transistor or equivalent), and either TunerPro Rt or WinALDL. With WinALDL the max data logging speed is 160 baud (nearly worthless). With TP RT you can data log at 8192, which is preferred.

With each a data stream definition file is required.

Best way to clear codes is to do the battery cable dance. I don't know of any free tools (or semi-free) that are setup to clear codes.

Thanks for the info!!! Where can I buy the cable? I also followed the link to dynamic efi and I wonder will this work with an 87 TPI. The new flashable kit looked interesting.

The EBL system will work if your setup is converted to SD (speed density). It is a matter of chaning a few pins at the ECM connector, and installing a MAP sensor. To me the real decision is whether to stay with MAF or convert to SD. If you wish to convert to Sd then the EBL Flash is a decent way to go.
