302-165 ECM swap

I really need someone who is highly knowlegable in doing it and has done it with success to contact me. I did the swap as outlined in the sticky here and my car runs like total crap. REAL rich at idle, stalls when put into drive and overall crappy. I did everything in the instructions to the letter. I need to know what wires go where. I am certain the prom is fine. Checked and verified. Chip is the SST27SF512

BUMP

nobody has any knowledge whatsoever on this? Come on this is my daily driver and now it wont read the MAF and theres also a code for the EST and the wires are where they are supposed to be.

Have you looked at the top sticky here:

Might help you out.

Re: 302-165 ECM swap

yes i looked it over as well as the schematics i found online. I cant figure this out. It doesnt make sense. Everything is hooked up the way it should be but i keep getting these codes. I reflashed the PROM with the v6 165 ecm F, and it seems to run alot better, however im baffled by the pinouts and the fact that they are right but things arent working the way they should. The only code i get is code 42, was getting code 34, i moved the maf wire back to its original position and the code cleared. Like i said, it shouldnt work that way but it does.

Re: 302-165 ECM swap

Well the speedo problem turned out to be a loose plug on the yellow buffer box thats attached to the ECM carrier. Interestingly when i lay the ECM on the passenger side floor, the code 42 goes away, when i tuck it into the stock location, the code re appears. This is some strange stuff. Also according to the repin chart, the MAF wire should go to B12, but when i do, the ECM cant read the MAF. When i return it to the stock B6 location, its fine. I dont get it.

Re: 302-165 ECM swap

For the code 42, sounds like the wire terminal isn't making good contact with the ECM connector pin. If you pop the terminal out of the connector note that the terminal is a 4-sided barrel in shape. You can gently squeeze the 'leafs' in for better contact.

Do this on both the EST and the BYPASS wires (D4 & D5).

As far as the MAF, it may be that B6 is the frequency input to the ECM. Pin B12 will be for an analog MAF. So which pin to use will depend upon both the MAF type, and the calibration flag for which type of MAF is connected to the ECM.

RBob.

Thanks Rbob. I'll give that a shot!
