Can I swap no delay wipers for intermiten?

Here's the deal. I can swap into my car an entire tilt steering column with the leather Camaro wheel for a standard column? The problem is currently in the car are regular wipers and the tilt column has intermitent. Is there a difference in the wiring? What needs to be rewired and does anyone have a diagram on them? Do I need to change the wiper motor also?

You'll need to swap in an intermittent motor as well; it'll just plug in and go. Your existing motor will work the same, except for it won't have the delay feature. No wiring changes need to be made (unless the column is from an 82 or 83 F-body).

It depends on the years of the column. I changed over from reg to intermitant. I had to get a new turn sig lever and a new switch inside the column. Also, I did not have to change wiper motors. Only the wiper motor's black plastic cap has to be changed. If it's an 86, I can give you the GM part number if you want it.

Justin,
I'm looking to make the same swap on my 86. I could use that p/n.

Thanks,
Jeff

There are 2 parts required for the swap: the wiper motor cover and the wiper switch. The turn signal stalk should work but it just wont have the markings for the int wiper settings.

I'll look up the p/ns for you guys and post back later.

Thanks. I've already got a new turn signal stalk w/the int wiper settings.
I just need the switch and cap.

by wiper switch, do u mean the thing u turn to turn them on...like mine is low and high?

jwattsjr 05-16-2003 09:33 PM

The thing you turn to turn them on is what we're calling the stalk.
The actual switch is in the steering coulmn, and is one of the items
that must be replaced. Justin's saying you should be able to keep
your Hi/Lo stalk.

Or, to put it another way: You'll have to replace your wiper switch
but not your turn signal/wiper/cruise lever.

ohhh.....thanks for clearing it up.......how hard is it to do this swap?

jwattsjr 05-16-2003 09:55 PM

The column shouldn't be hard at all. The switch shoould be just a
few layers down. I dunno about the wiper motor, though.

The switch is inder the turn signal stuff in the column and is held in by a pin. The motor doesn't have to be changed, just the black cover held on by 3 screws.

one last thing.....would a haynes manual help me through this step by step?

Justins86bird 05-17-2003 12:17 AM

A manual may help, but it's not really hard to do. Just pull the wheel and remove some screws and you get down to the switch
