Hooking up a knock sensor to al ight?
 
Just wondered if there was maybe some way to do it...

I figure it might be a useful tuning tool for someone like me who's running a carbureted car to have a knock sensor hooked up to some sort of visual interface instead of an ECM.

Depending on the sensor, you might be able to use a diode, however
the duration and level of the signal will vary and may not have enough
voltage to forward bias the diode in all instances.

The ECM uses complex circuits to read the output as it's a sign wave (AC),
not a DC voltage.

You'll probably need some sort of amplifier and hold circuit (555 timer?) to
make it work.
