pink/blk stripe 12v+ hot while cranking?

i use a couple of different pink wires blk stripe to supply power to relays.
my question is, are these hot while cranking?
if they are, what wires can i use out of the fuse box that are only hot with ign?
dont need any power during cranking.
thanks!

Re: pink/blk stripe 12v+ hot while cranking?

Depending how much power you need to draw, you can tap into the orange wires that supply these four fuses: FAN, HTR A/C, WDO, DRL. If you don't have DRL (most of us don't), feel free to use that fuse space for your own purpose (but label it right).

If you need just a few milliamps, you can probably safely tap into the brown wire that goes to the alternator and the fan relays.

Hope this helps.

TJ, when I was doing mine I found the pink/blk wires WERE hot when I had in start or run. I used those to power the MSD. Go to that austin third gen site. They have some really good schematics of most all 3rd gens and I used those to gut my wiring of what I did or didn't need. I wish I was home, I'd give you all the ones I printed out. They're all sitting in the front floorboard if you wanna go by and get 'em!! What are you up to now anyway?? lol

Those pink/blk wires are for the emissions equip and should always be hot when the key is ON/Crank, The computer controls the ground for the emissions equipment to turn those components on and off.

NOPE - pink/black are fuel injector wires - depending on whether the original setup was TBI or TPI will determine how many of them there are around the bay - and yes they are hot in run and crank, as fuel injectors needs to spray during crank for the engine to start.

Just btw, the original poster asked about wires that have power ONLY with ignition on, not while cranking. The pink/black wires do not fulfill this criterium.

Actually INJ wires are pink on the 12v side and blue or green on the ECM side. Emissions common is usually pnk/blk

I do not know of any wires in the engine bay that are IGN 12v but not while cranking. Check the IGN switch circuit on the column

yellow wire to stereo ?
its 12volt +

and it cuts the power to the stereo while cranking, and when stop cranking and the engine is running, it gets power again..

thanks.

Can anyone tell me what the pink w/ black stripe wires power in the dash cluster on a TPI 91 Z-28? I removed the stock gauges and went aftermarket. Where the original cluster pluged in to the 2 connectors in the dash, they each have one of these wires that is hot in run. Also can anyone tell me wich wires in these connectors supplied power to the high beam indicator and the directional indicators? Thanks.

you can use the pink wires for 12v+ to your new gauges.
high beam is going to be the small green or brown wire( i cant remember) pretty sure its the small light green.
turn signals are light blue and dark blue. id have to dig through my notes to find the correct order for those, but the colors are correct.

Stage20 is right.
Here's the instrument panel pinout: http://www.austinthirdgen.org/mkport...ter_pinout.jpg

Hope this helps.

In that pin-out, the pin that says illumination is it hooked into the dimmer switch?

That is correct: http://www.austinthirdgen.org/mkport..._exceptT61.jpg

More diagrams here, if you need: http://www.austinthirdgen.org/index.php?pid=19

cluster illumination are grey wires. there are several of them.
im not sure if the dimmer wire is grey or dark green. i swapped to a 4th gen setup and i always get my colors mixed up in the years.

Looking for a good spot to tie in my 12v conductor for my heated O2 sensor. I'm switching over to a 3 wire from 1 due to the new location of the O2 sensor using Dyno Don's headers. I'm trying to locate the pink w/blk stripe conductor out of one of the main harnesses. Preferably closest to the sensor. Can anybody give me a good location to tie into ?

all the pink blk stripe wires are in the harness under the dash, i believe.

mine were in the harness near the fuse box and I used them to run my MSD.
