383 carb - fuel pump wiring and manual fan switch

Ok, I've done some searching, but can't quite get a definite answer. Car is an 88 Camaro 305 TBI to a 383 carb. After install, I got all wiring done and wasn't getting fuel. Found fuel pump relay, 3 of the 5 wires were cut, oops!! The cut ones were green/white, black/white, and tan/white. The green/white is supposed to go to keyed source (DONE), and black/white to ground (DONE) correct? I then hooked the tan/white wire from the relay to the tan/white going into firewall and it worked! Is this set-up ok, or an I bound to fry something?

2nd question. I'd like to test my fan/wire up a manual switch for it. There is a black and black/red coming from fan. A picture of the fan relay is below, everything look right? What is the easiest way to do go about the switch for fan. I'm not looking for anything temp controlled, just a manual switch. Thanks in advance guys.

Green/white @ relay went to ground through the temp switch in head to control the fan.
Cut that wire and run it inside to ground through a switch.
Total manual control

Personally I would leave the temp switch in place and splice the manual wiring into it so you have manual control when you want it and auto control by the temp switch when you forget to turn fan on

Okay, green/white is grounded. Turned key and nothing. Installed new fan relay, still nothing. Traced tan/white wire - It wasn't T'd into the brown like in diagram. T'd it into the brown. Still nothing! I'm going to Napa to get a new fan motor tomorrow.....any other guesses??

Does the car have to be RUNNING for fan to work, I've just been turning key to on. Reminder, no ECM, 383 carb originally 305 TBI.

Fuel wiring is fine. It will come on with the IGN and stay on until you turn it off

For the fan, tan/wht or brn needs 12 IGN, dk grn/wht gets grounded to engage the relay. Also test that you have 12v battery on the red or orn wire. If not check for a blown fusible link

Save yourself alot of headache, time, trouble, and bad money spent on parts that probably work (like the fan motor) - just get an aftermarket electronic fan controller, wire as per instructions included, and call it a day. They come with a temp probe that probes radiator, have provisions for manual on/off switches, A/C provisions, adjustabnle temp settings, and are easy to wire (only uses the fan wires and removes all other temp switches, relays, etc.).

I run a Flex-a-lite, mine was $100, but worth every single cent - 5+ years later it works as it should EVERY time!

Thanks pocket, I'll give that a try tomorrow and report back.

Update: I hooked the tan/white into 12 IGN and tried it, nothing. I then tested the black/red wire supplying the fan and wasn't getting anything. I traced the black ground from the fan and basically found that it was cut somewhere along it's route to driver's side because it wasn't present on the other side. Hooked the ground to passenger side fender well and voila, we now have air flow!! That should wrap up my wiring for the 383.

I bought my 87 a year ago and the fan is wired to come on when the ignition is turned, I have no clue where it is wired at since the harness is in such bad condition. I definitely like your option below. Which flex-a-lite fan did you purchase? Do you have a part number? Thanks in advance!
