Serveral electrical problems! Hello, I encountered serveral electrical problems with my 1989 2.8L V6 Firebird. From one day to the other, the following components dropped out: - Front and Rear lights don't work - parking lights - interior lights don't work - the horn dropped out - the door lock/unlock button is functionless - this beep sound which appears if you start the engine doesn't appear I already checked the fuses and they are OK. The interior of the car is dry. For me this seems to be a strange combination of dropped out components and I don't have any idea where to begin my search for trouble shooting. My father mentioned, that maybe a marten could have destroyed some wires, but if so, which? It would be great if someone has an idea what could be the reason for this strange electrical problems. Best regards, Peter EDIT: When I tried it out just a few minutes ago, all worked well. But I want to know the reason for the problem anyway, to prevent it from coming back. |
Re: Serveral electrical problems! i am having all of the excact problems try the ignition box under the dash did you by any chance peel the column a few weeks back or change the catylitic converter idk i cant seem to figure it out either damn 21 year old electricians once the car warms up the radio,headlights,lock pops the hatch pop and the cigg lighter cease to work |
Re: Serveral electrical problems! did you check the relays under the dash too. I know it might not be a fix but maybe its there. Check the C100 on the firewall to make sure its not loose as its the complete harness for the headlights. |

The source of the problem is a loose connection from the back of the fuse block at the aforementioned fuses’ junction to the Fusible Link on the starter. Re: Serveral electrical problems! Wires can be a tricky thing. I fixed my dead power door locks that are set by an aftermarket GM remote key fob by locating a unattached orange wire. That single wire cleared up dead door locks, interior lighting, dome light, and a crazy sounding buzzing sound. I blew two 20 amp fuses while trouble shooting. I also fixed a separate dome light issue due to a loose connection. Apparently when I had the entire interior out for a redo, some how I did something that caused this loose connection. When you trouble shoot wire and electrical problems you really need to figure what all is not working and go from there. Several unseemingly related issues can all be traced back to one thing. |
Re: Serveral electrical problems! zz3 z28 i am having electrical problems with my 2.8l rs 89 camaro -headlights -hatch pop -power locks -acc lights inside and under the hood -tail lights -rev lights -break lights -radio -cigarette lighter -gas gauge stuck on E when the car warms up all these things pop on and off while driving i cant drive it like this it does run i recently had to peel the column one day when i was driving it i the rain and the wipers were on i went to turn the car off with the wipers on with my screwdriver and it arced in the column and i blew the wiper fuse i popped in a new fuse and it worked about two weeks later i was driving home at night i might add and everything went out i had to drive 20 miles with no head or tail or break lights i got home and left the head lights on and at three in the morning they popped back on i have been told it goes through the bulkhead to the fusebox there are loose wire somewhere it runs off of the fusible links off the starter any info on this serious problem would be greatly apreciated |

Re: Components Dropped Out, Need More Glue Hi, So some news: Right now I began to look for loose wires, but couldn't finde one yet. But under the dash board right besides the fuses block I found a connector plug which seems not to be connected to something: http://s1.directupload.net/images/120614/5wifmtmf.jpg And I found out, that the cigg lighter, the power mirrors and the electrical antenna also don't work. A bit confusing was the following: The electrical trunk opener also doesn't work, but if I press the opener Button, the BRAKE light appears :D. |
