83 Camaro Wiper/washer wiring problem

We recent put a steering column from a 89 iroc (with wiper delay) in my 83 (no wiper delay). We've connected the wires as follows.
Body - Column
Black to White
Pink to Pink
Purple to Gray
gray to green
green to purple

no matter which ON position the switch is in the fluid is always pumping

So if anyone can help with this mind twister. that would be great.

I ran into the same thing. Its wont work with the newer style switch. The best thing to do is either swap in the 83 switch or get the wiper motor out of the 89. But the bolt holes dont line up so some modification is needed. The 89 is a power side switch and the 83 motor is ground side switched.

We figured that the problem was the motor so we got another '83 motor.
There's no way to make it work?

The 89 motor didn't work

I kind of need it to work for a safety and I do not want to buy another motor

You're kinda' out of luck.

The 82-83 wiper system is very different that then later years. There is no interchanging an 82-83 wiper motor with other years because IIRC a later motor will not mount properly to the firewall.

The best way for you to proceed is to obtain and install the proper 82-83steering column ( or POSSSIBLY installing 82-83 steering coulum guts into your 89 column,... & I don't KNOW that would work !)

FYI - I've got an 82-83 coulmn.
