Dakota Digital SGI-5

Im runnin wires direct from the speed sensor, one is grounded andthe other ran to the SGI module. pulled the ECM and cant find the wire that goes to the speedo. mine was a v6 fuel injected from 91,. didnt see a buffer box. just ecm. any ideas as to where to tap into for the speedo?

Re: Dakota Digital SGI-5

With the V6 there is no buffer box, the V6 cars and TPI cars used the same chassis harness and wire routing.

The VSS input goes to the ECM, then the ecm OUTPUTS the signal to the cluster and cruise box.

The connections are :

Pin B9 of the C1 Black ECM connector: Purple VSS Ground
Pin B10 of C1 Black ECM connector: Yellow VSS Signal Input
Pin B11 of C1 Black ECM connector: Gray Vehicle Speed Output 4000 PPM
Pin C1 of of the C2 Black ECM connector: Red Vehicle speed output 2000 PPM

The purple and yellow wires run from the vss inside the harness through the passenger fender, and then into the car at the kick panel, then into the ECM.

The ECM then outputs the 4000 PPM signal for the speedometer through the gray wire which connects to the chassis side of things at the C207 under dash connector terminal "D"

The ECM also outputs the 2000 PPM signal for the cruise control through the red wire and connects to the chassis at the C207 terminal "P"

If you are just trying to correct a gearing issue, then you need to cut the Yellow VSS wire before it hits the ECM and connect the vss side to the SGI5 Input, then the other side of it to the SGI5 Output.

You said in your thread that your car was TBI/5 spd originally, lets keep these seperate because the chassis wiring is completely different in this aspect between V6/TPI cars and TBI cars, so future people arent confused when using this for a reference.

If you'll provide what you've got and what you're working with in your thread, i'll explain everything you need for it to work.

thanks for the info, i didnt have this issue until i swapped the tpi v6 to a carbed 350. I Tapped into the grey wire. and ran it from the Out1 on the SGI module. I Tapped into the ground and main wire from the VSS on the trans and ran the wires thru a hole in the firewall and connected it to the MOdule.
IT WORKED. I didnt disconnect anything else. but it works, altho its 10 mph faster than it should be. but i guess it cant be perfect. Thanks Z28Ricer!

You should be able to fine tune the speed output to make the speedometer very accurate with the sgi-5.

My guess is that the gears in your transmission arent the correct set for your rear end ratio, and or tires, correcting that will help, but realistically you should be able to get it nailed down with the sgi5.

just curious why you didn't leave in the ecm instead of buying a sgi-5 was the speedometer off ?
