Brake light in spoiler of 87 iroc not working

Does anyone know how to troubleshoot the brake light in the spoiler of an 87 iroc? I put in new bulbs and cleaned the contacts on the piece that closes the hatch. Is there a specific fuse for just the third brake light? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Re: Brake light in spoiler of 87 iroc not working

Hi There! Had the same problem with my 86 TA. I found the wire that goes to the hatch from the tail lights ran a wire under the the back and side panels up to middle of the hatch at the ceiling panel. Then ran it to the bolt on the hatch brake light. It works good now. I had a break in the power wire that runs for the rear defrost. That is where the power runs through for the brake light. Going to fix the wire sometime so it works the right way. But for now it works great. Hope this helps out. Cheers Bro..

I'm dealing with a problem here too. I've got power at the light and if I hook, jumpers up,from a battery to the light it works, but it won't light from the plug. Checked grounds and confirmed it has 12volts but still no luck. Crazy to me because direct from a battery the light works great! Good luck!

Hi Bro! I know! I took my light right off and hooked up to the battery and it worked fine. I have ground to it. So where the electric hatch closes there is a pad that connects to the hatch when closed. That power runs through a wire on the rear defrost. Mine was not connected so wouldn't turn the brake light on when brake is pressed. I have to get the wire soldier sometime then it will work fine. For now I spliced the wire that goes to the pad on the hatch. Then ran a wire along the inside of the back and side and top panels to the hatch brake light bolt. Now works fine and you wouldn't know any different.

I figured mine out today--the brake light switch was bad. I was getting 12volts out back and up to the lamp, but when I tested it with a test light-it would barely (dim) light the bulb, so I traced it all the way back to the brake light switch. The yellow wire coming off of the brake light switch powers the 3rd brake light-it wasn't lighting the test light there either.

GLad we got them fixed!

I got the light working!! I took the plastic panel off in the hatch where the deck lid closing mechanism and hatch light is located. Once off I noticed a clip of wires was not connected. I just had to connect the wiring clips and the brake light now works. Thanks for the advice since that's what made me start checking the wires and pulling the plastics apart.

Up under the dash. Little white switch that is triggered by the brake pedal. Has a plunger on one side and two plugs that plug in to it. I got my replacement from Oreilly.
