The infamous headlight module
 

So I have a 89 formula that doesn't have a headlight module. I have heard through the grapevine that some early 4th gen firebird modules work, but after doing some looking around, that doesn't seem to be true. Is it true? Another thing I've heard is that some people seem to have bypassed the module completely? If that's true I definitely want to know!

If anyone has information on to get one used or refurbished or if there is another way to fix this problem, it will be greatly appreciated!!

I don't understand why anyone would bypass a headlight module. Never heard of that. You can get a quality refurbished module for your car at www.topdownsolutions.com. Lon will take care of you.

I heard the bypass story through one of my Pontiac friends, but I wasn't sure if it was true or not. Thanks for clarifying! I'll check top down solution out! Thank you!

A person can search on Google and find the various applications that interchange.

I've seen where someone TRIED to bypass the module, and completely horked the wiring harness in the process, only to completely burn out the module. :lol: There's also a few pages that talk about repairing the module, but from everything I've seen, the sticker on the outside that says to replace it rather than trying to service it are accurate.

I've read some of those threads about repairing it. I've searched online and all that really comes up are 90-02 modules, and from what I've read, they don't work with 87-89 unless I'm wrong about that

Classic Industries (http://www.classicindustries.com/pro...rts/g4356.html) seems to think they're all the same. I would not recommend buying a $700 module and plugging it in to find out for sure.

The Fiero boys are usually pretty sharp. I'd be hitting the junkyards and looking for a Sunbird, Skyhawk, Fiero, or 87-89 Firebird.

;) John I believe your finding is 100% right , I recall having read Lon himself say that those two or three years are different modules with different pinouts even though the plugs are the same .

:2cents: The OP should take blacksunshine91's advice and speak with Lon , he being the "go to guy" on these components .

So I went to a junk yard and I found a 95 headlight module and it works!
