Third wire with flat prong coming off red starter wire goes where?

1 Attachment(s)
1983 Firebird V6, T5, non-AC car.

Almost done with a V8 swap, but have this wire I'm not sure where it goes.

The red wire harness that goes to the large lug on the starter (not the battery harness, the other one that goes into the C100 bulkhead connector) has a third wire coming off of it with a flat prong.

Where does this go?

Doesn't look like it has anything to do with the starter.

Also looks like the purple wire is on the wrong terminal... belongs on the one marked "S".

No I didn't think it had anything to do with the starter, but it's battery hot so I figured it must go somewhere.

I'll check the starter wiring. I just put it on the side that looked like it had been used haha

Firewall Connector? There is also a wire that branches off to a connector between the starter solenoid and power supply for the blow relay. I'm assuming you're using and rerouting the original harness?

Or this one? These are the only two originally on that circuit that would have spade terminals such as that.

looks like it melted off a plug, look for a melted one

C100 is the bulkhead connector, below the brake booster. What you have circled is 1 of 2 feeds that bring battery into the interior; the other is in the path where "A" goes to over at the far right and on the 2nd drawing. It's not that.

That wire doesn't even look factory, really. It's a different color from the factory wiring.

Leatherbelt, yeah I was just looking at those diagrams myself in the FSM. A4 on the C100. Not really seeing where it connects to though? Diagram says "POWER DIST, IGNITION SWITCH". But since it's on the same harness as the hot side of the battery... it isn't switched, right? Man I just keep confusing myself more.

Sleeper, bet it did come out of a plug, unfortunately though this car has been through several owners and the harness is totally butchered. Taken me a long time to get it this far!!

sofa, the wire is definitely factory. You can see it in the first pic I just posted above this post.

In the top right there is a wad of factory fabric black tape on the red wire where it splits into three.

The diagram above SEEMS to show it's for the AC blower control?? So hoping (since I don't have AC) it's unnecessary.

THINK I FOUND A PIC OF THE PLUG!! Not where it goes, but maybe its position in the harness will help!

Been looking at classified posts and ebay auctions and finally found this 1984 Camaro wiring harness that had a photo that'd help.

I wonder if it is for the high speed blower relay. Which doesn't exist on a non-A/C car. It fits the location and purpose and wiring diagram.

Found this pic of before I tore the V6 out. Think this is that connector that's just flapping in the breeze?

I think RBob is on the right track. If I were a betting man I'd say that would be connector C144. Any other opinions?

Re: Third wire with flat prong coming off red starter wire goes where?

Just removed a similar wire from the main hot starter post of my A/C deleted '86 Camaro
Unfortunately it had been cut at about a foot long, so I don't have a plug to reference. It does have a 20 amp fusible link.
The other two wires coming off the starter post have 16 amp fusible links.
I haven't found anything that isn't working so far (besides the A/C of course)

Awesome guys, thanks for all the help. It must be for the AC system.

I'm just so afraid of hooking a battery to my car for the first time and burning it to the ground! haha

You're welcome. As for burning the car down, grab a small light bulb, 1156, 194, whatever is handy. Connect the battery positive, then connect the light bulb between the battery negative and the negative battery cable.

See if the light is on or off. On can be an issue, make sure the doors are closed (dome light). If still on then something is drawing power.

Off means that there are no shorts to ground (good).

RBob.
