I need a small block

ANYONE!!! I need(well want really) a small block, must be complete, or near complete, and need to be in good (running) condition. any smallblock chevy motor....infact, it doesnt even have to run that great, but I need to be able to install it right away with minimal work to the engine. Looking for 200 bucks or under, anyone have anything?

Re: I need a small block

hi ,, ive got a couple blocks for sale that come with some stuff ,, but far from complete , a 327 2 bolt main out of a 70 vette ,or a 350 4 bolt main out of 80 thru 85 camaro ,, let me know if youre interested an then ill give you more detail

Re: I need a small block

I am interested in either one....the 327 sounds great to me, I absolutely love those, but I would probably rather have the 350....how incomplete are the two of them? What kind of cash are you looking for out of them? Are they ok to get a rebuild kit and run them, or would I have to get any machine work done? But yes, I am very interested. Where are you located...give me as much info as you can, cause I am trying to do this either this weekend or next weekend, but if I have to I can wait a little bit. Thanks for replying, I appreciate it

Re: I need a small block

hi ,, well there both what i consider building foundations but they do include crank , cam ,lifters, rods, piston rods, left an right heads, springs, rocker arms, mains of course, an yes theyd be perfect to stick a rebuild kit in an run ,, but the 327 has ben sitting 10-15 years an some minor pitting has developt in one cylinder wall ,, but is a easy fix, just bore out ,i had a friend price the boring out for me at 250 buck for 70 over, but the 350 is in perfect shape ,, both of them include same parts for each as listed above, they were completely remanufactured by advance auto parts whom i used to work for an stuck on display10-15 years ago, never missed a dusting ,lol,,, now price ide take 100 bucks for the 327 because it needs to be bored out ,an the 350 around 375 to 400 cause 4 bolt mains are getting scarce ,, let me know what you think an if you have any more ??,s
----------

oh an you could pick it up immediately im in milwaukee wi 53215 ,,AN NO PROBLEM ABOUT REPLYING US F BODY GUYS GOT TO STICK TOGETHER MAN, oh i forgot to mention that eitheR one of these motors will need new cam an rod bearings, AN A FEW FREEZE PLUGS,, OTHER THAT THAT YOULL NEED A SET OF PISTONS ,INTAKE MANIFOLD, CARB ,DISTRIBUTOR,VALVE COVERS, AN A REBUILD KIT,, BUT IDE PROBLY THROW A HIGH PERFORMANCE CAM IN WITH A ROLLER ROCKER SETUP , BUT IT WOULD BE YOURE MOTOR SO DO WHAT YOU WANT TO IT
,OR IDE TRADE IN A HEART BEAT FOR A KNIGHT RIDER BUMPER FROM ANY SEASON IF YOURE CAPABLE OF GETING ONE OF THOSE

Re: I need a small block

I think i am still interested in the 350, I prolly have the parts to finish it up, well aside from cam and pistons, but thats no big deal. Uhmm, i will still have to think about it tho, cause someone (today infact) offered me a trade, for a running, but smokes a little (valves) 305! He wants to trade me my 5 speed tranny and 100 bucks for his motor. This might be a bit more of an advantage to me because he is in town, not far away. The disadvantage from buying from you in milwaukee would of course be the pick up or shipping costs....I am in Joplin Mo by the way, I just realized that i should have listed that when I made the post. but....I dont know yet, Honestly, not to tease you with buying the motor from you or anything, but I think I will probably just do the trade with the guy here in town, unless I find someone who will trade me straight accross, or someone who has a finished, or productive motor. Sorry for wasting your time and energy on this though, i really do feel bad. but if you have any more ideas for me, please, let me know!

Re: I need a small block

hey no problem ,, it wasnt a waste of time at all ,, if you can get a good trade from some one in youre town go for it ,, then you dont really have to worry about shiping ,well good luck man an let me know how youre car turns out

Re: I need a small block

i will....i still got a big plate in front of me, now my wife and i are deciding whether or not i should just get the v6 going and put a clutch in it, or just do the swap...I dont know for sure how much money i am going to have to put into it to get the motor going, but then again, I havnt really had time to play with it either...but I will let ya know how it turns out either way. again thanks so much for trying to help me out. I really do appreciate it.

Re: I need a small block

HEY ILL TELL YOU THE CHEAPER ROUTE IS TO GET A NEW CLUTCH ,, IDE PROBLY HOLD OFF ON THE V 8 SWAP FOR A LIL WHILE ,, YOULL NEED TO GET ALOT OF PARTS TO DO THE V8 SWAP ,, BUT A NEW CLUTCH FOR YOURE V6 IS LIKE A 150 BUCKS AT ADVANCE AUTO PARTS OR EVEN CHECKER AUTO PARTS , AN HEY IF YOU GOT SOME QUESTIONS JUST SHOOT THEM MY WAY ,IM NOT A GENIUS BUT I DO KNOW A TON OF THINGS ,,WELL LATERS MAN

Re: I need a small block

ok then, here is a question....I got the car with NO KEYS!!! so I had to go around the anti-theft thing, right. So I got my resistor and it worked, it was like 3,750 ohms. and it cranks over my engine, I think my fuel pump relay is bad though because it wouldnt turn on so I ran a switch...anyhow, I have to either prime my throttle body with gas to get it started, or crank with the fuel pump switch on for quite a while for it to start...any ideas? oh yeah, I fouled out a spark plug or two whilest trying it...even so, the car still wont idle right, if i give it any throttle at all, it will rev at about 3500 rms's and take a while to go back down to normal rpms...any suggestions?

Re: I need a small block

I have a 350 that I just pulled out of my Camaro last week. I put it in 2 years ago and it has approximately 5000 miles on it. 350ci, 9:1 Sealed Power Pistons, Clevite Cam 204 in. 214 ex, lift.421in .444 ex., cloyes double roller timing chain, ported 193 TBI Heads, Cyclone intake or I have a TBI intake if you would rather have that. Leaks at timing cover. Needs 8" balancer. It is right around 300-315 hp. I have a crate I could put it in and deliver it to a trucking company or I am about 5 hours from KC if you would rather come pick it up. I am looking to get around $1200 for it.

Re: I need a small block

well it sounds like youve got youreself a big problem , basically the fuel fump is just runnuing to much at a sertain point the computer tells is to slow down an not send as much do to engine conditions an what not ,, heres what i would do put everything back to how it was before you rigd the wires , then go down to youre local gm dealer tell them you need a new ignition lock cylinder make sure it comes with the keys , an make sure its for youre year car im thinking it has that little chip in it ,right?, then put it in with all youre normal wires where there suppose to be ,, an that should take care of that,,
but just incase get a new fuel pump relay from the parts store its like 15 bucks
oh hey heres another idea get fuel pressure tester youre psi should be around 21 psi , an if you find that its lower try replaceing the fuel filter , then test again now if it still is to low replace youre fuel pump an strainer ,, but either way you go its still gonna be alot cheaper that swaping motors ,, well let me know what you think .like i said im not a genius but i do work in the auto parts industry
AN TKAE A LOOK AT YOURE PICK UP COIL INSIDE YOURE CAPan hey if you need some v6 parts ive got tons , in working condition too , im not sure how youll go about fixing that fouling , ide probly throw a new head on that side ,but i can tell you one thing its not good to have fouling
OH HERES ANOTHER THING TO TAKE A LOOK AT INSID OF YOURE DISTRIBUTOR CAP THE PICK UP COIL

basically the fuel fump is just runnuing to much at a sertain point the computer tells is to slow down an not send as much do to engine conditions an what not
What? The fuel pump is either on or off. The ECU does not change the speed of the fuel pump.

karrfirebird87 09-17-2007 05:55 PM

Re: I need a small block

hmm?,, ok so youre saying the ecu dont adjust the fuel pump delivery for higher or lower rpm,s?? i think maybe in a older vehicle with a machanical pump you might be right ,, but in this case , well ok if thats true why didnt originally from the manufactuer they just run a hot an a ground wire to the pump? why so many other wires to it ????????????????????

327_TPI_77_Maro 09-17-2007 05:58 PM

Re: I need a small block

I burn chips for TPI stuff and know the pump speed does not change w/ rpms. The pulse width of the fuel injectors changes. The V6 he has is MPFI and should be the same. LOL

Re: I need a small block

ok ,, well im not trying to challenge youre knoledge ,,but i do have to dis agree with that ,, an i do know my fare share of stuff ive workt in the auto parts industry for years ive prety much seen it all

I have pics of the engine if you want them.

Re: I need a small block

yeah, give me some pics of it....i may be interested....someone offered me some v6 parts, to carb mine....but i might be interested in what you have.

Re: I need a small block

Carbing a V6 is going backwards. The 60 deg carb motors are more horrible than the EFI'd counterparts. The varajet is a really, really bad carb.

w_mortell 09-19-2007 09:54 PM

Re: I need a small block

i know its not the best move i could make, however.....i have limited cash, and am tired of dealing with all of the fuel injection bull****! I would just absolutely love to throw in a small block, but recently expences have come up to where it would be a while before I would be able to do this...and I really need to get this car going...my wife and I are sharing a vehicle, and it is getting quite difficult on the both of us, she works random shifts and so do I, and also I have my college at night...so getting this car running (however crappy that is) is just going to have to be acceptable to me.

Re: I need a small block

You are going to need a fuel pump for the carb. The EFI pump is too high pressure. You can't just add an electric inline pump and draw through the in tank EFI pump either. I don't think the 3.1 will have the provision for the mechanical pump. It is not going to be at all simple to add the carb on that late of a car.

karrfirebird87 09-24-2007 07:08 PM

Re: I need a small block

hey just got a better deal for you a 305 block heads crank an mains an timming components, 75 bucks if you can get it out my garage by this weekend

w_mortell 09-24-2007 09:42 PM

Re: I need a small block

you got any idea what it would cost someone to have this shipped? if you could find out, I might be pretty interested..also can you tell me about the parts, anything in particular wrong with them?

That's why the make fuel pressure regualtors so you don't need a new fuel pump.
