Is there a GM V-6 that is all aluminum?

Me and LottaBalls are wanting to put an all aluminum V-6 into a 88 Fiero, but I wasn't sure what car to take it out of. I think the Taurus SHO has one, but there is no way I'm putting a Ford engine in any car of mine. Does anyone know which, if any, GM cars came with all aluminum v-6's?

PS-if it were my choice, we'd be putting my L98 in the Fiero when we take it out of our IROC to install the 383 that we're going to build :)

if it has a 2.8L v6 now, the OHV 3.4L v6 would be your best bet. I hate those engines though. I had a 2.8L. maybe stick the DOHC 3.4L from the 90's Monte Carlo in there. It should bolt up right where the 2.8L is if its not too wide.

Buick made a 215 CID aluminum V8

Olds made all Al 6s in a good number of FWD cars.

Well, I thought they did. Turns out I was mistaken. However, just to save some face, the intrigue has an Al V6 based off of the Aurora V8.

You are correct, sir. Now for the bonus question, how many liters is it ?

3.5L

the GMPP catalog lists an aluminum block, bosses for both rwd & fwd. lists for only about $3K. how much do you really want that block?

edit: it's the 2.8 block

Correct again. Now that drivetrain would cook in a Fiero. 2000 & up Olds Intrigue. My buddy works at a salvage yard & has sold a couple of 3800 Supercharged motors from Bonnevilles & Park Aves for Fiero swaps.

Nuts to all this V6 hooey. Go all out and grab that caddy engine/tranny and shoe horn that baby in. Now that'll set your world on fire. Those Northstar combos are everywhere too.

Ricktpi 07-12-2002 12:40 PM

The Northstar would be badass, but PITA to get to work with all the electronics that thing has.

Actually, me and LottaBalls' Fiero project car is getting pushed a little into the future now (like at least another 1 1/2 years) so that we can spend that money on building a totally sweet 475hp, 500 ft/lb tq 383 for our IROC. Since we're estimating the cost of the engine to be about $7000, that pretty much cuts out every other thing we had wanted to do in the near future. I just hope there is enough money left over for us to go on our honeymoon when we get married in March!:)
