How much faster should it be ??

A friend of mine who is a master technician who has his own shop and builds hot rods, camaros and everything else, is doing an LT1 swap for me. The motor is a 97' LT1 T56 six speed with 37k miles on it has a brand new clutch, granatelli MAF on it, BBK ceramic coated headers, and a custom tuned PROM by him, it also has a Comp cam XFI268 cam, he is also installing 3.73 gears along with the motor. I know that I wont be able to hook for crap with my kuhmo 245's but if I can hook at all what should I run aproximately ?? Also given that I can hook what kind of 0-60 times. Immediately after I get this done Im going with drag radials, and SFC's.

This is a tough question to answer because it depends on the tuning of your suspension and your own driving skill. In my old Corvette I had a run as slow as 13.5 @ 120 mph. You have to suck at driving to manage that (I'm an over achiever :D ). If you can have somebody run a computer simulation this would probably define your potential during a perfect run. You will likely be a 1/4 to 1/2 second slower once you get a feel for the car.

Take it out to the drag strip and let us know! :driving:

The motor was dynoed on the 97' at 313 to the wheels, it was then taken out and put on a stand and is now being put into my car, Iam pretty good at a manual, but the main problem will be traction. On the dyno the car pulled of a 13.1, if that is any indication of what it might do, but it now has headers on it. So for example say I get TRACTION, (I prob wont) what would it run on street 13.4 ??

You should beable to get 13.4 on the street for sure if it puts down close to the 313. Theres always some weight reduciton. Traction wont be horribly bad, once in 3rd lol. Run it and make adjustments. Start with tires, and get the best ones you can afford. From there adress the suspention depending on whats happening, IE wheel hop, just spinning, car lifting then unloading, ect.

Yea it made 313hp to the wheels with the stock manifolds on it, and the prom hadnt been tuned yet. We're going to dyno it again after the headers and tuned prom. So it should I think atleast make 320hp if not more to the wheels when I do it again. The thirdgen is alot lighter than the forth gen so that should aid me also. Yea like you mentioned Im gonna need stickier tires, what do you recommend, drag radials ?? I need something thats not too expensive after all the work I've spent on this swap. How hard is it to put SFC's in ?? Will it make a difference on the track ??

RaGe 05-04-2006 04:35 PM

My guess is easy high 12s with a some traction.

cheese_kake 05-04-2006 04:39 PM

Wow that would be nice, I think Im gonna do tires next lol. I think I might need like 275's or 295's Z rated or even drag radial BFG's.
