305 oil pan vs the 350 oil pan just bought a 350 out of suburban the dipstick is on the right side on the 350 will this oil pan clear my front cross member or do i need a different pan can i use the 305 oil pan will it bolt to the 350. Also what about the exhaust manifolds on the 350 are they the right ones im leaving the high compression 350 heads on the motor will my manifold from the 305 bolt onto the 350? Thanks for all the help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
Re: 305 oil pan vs the 350 oil pan 305 and 350 SBC are pretty much one in the same, you can use "350" and "305" parts on whatever SBC you want to, like 305 heads on a 350, with a 305 intake, and a 350 oil pan, as long as it fits in your app then you are ok, only problem yo may have is pre/post 87 motors |
Re: 305 oil pan vs the 350 oil pan thanks man i appreciate tne info. How hhard is it going to be for me to get the pully off of my 305? The 350 has a serp sytem but it wont fit im sure plus im eliminating the smog pump dont want to deal with making a serp belt belt without the smog pump on. Am i going to need a pully puller for those pullies? |
You're a little sparing on details, but your username indicates your Camaro is an '87, and the 350 must be '88-later if it had serpentine. The pulleys unbolt from the damper so you can easily switch those two around. Everything should unbolt from your 305 and bolt onto the 350. The 350 oil pan should be fine in the Camaro. Using your '87 accessories is the smart (well, at least easier) way to go. |
Re: 305 oil pan vs the 350 oil pan I didnt even realize i didnt explain my car. I have an 87 iroc z28 w/305 TPI. The motor i bought is 89 suburban tbi motor. Thanks for the info everything helps. I was worried about the oil pan, exhaust manifolds everything that could create a fittment problem. Basically i just want to take everything off the 350 except the heads & distributor. Take everything from my 305 and put it on the 350. Thanks again. |
Sounds good. The distributors should be the same as well. You should be able to tell if the oil pan is significantly different on the 350 than the 305 when you get them side-by-side. If they are (and I don't have any reason to believe they will be), the 305 pan will fit on the 350 just fine. Is the Suburban 2 or 4 wheel drive? |
Re: 305 oil pan vs the 350 oil pan I didnt even ask if the suburban was a 4 wheel drive!! What if it is arnt 4 wheel drives set up with different cams and all for more torq? What problems will there be if it is? Thanks. LOL i posted a new thread before reading this one about the distributor thanks again! |
