66 corvette engin I have a 66 vette engin with double hump heads. My buddy told me they were special, can someone please help????? |
They were back in 66. Todays engines such as a ZZ4 is better. Those old double hump heads were performance heads 35 years ago. Even aftermarket Dart cast iron heads are better right out of the box than what those heads are. With all the reasonably priced aluminum heads on the market now, it's not worth the money to build or use 35 year old heads. It's amazing that everyone still wants those old heads but if you price out what it costs to build them up to good performance levels it will cost more than buying new aftermarket heads. Leave the old heads to someone who wants to build a numbers matching car or needs them to run in a class that requires stock production parts. ------------------ Follow my racing progress on Stephen's racing page and check out the race car 87 IROC-Z Pro ET Bracket Race Car 383 stroker (carbed) with double hump cast iron heads and pump gas 461 Big Block installed and ready for the 2001 racing season Best results before the 383 blew up Best ET on a time slip: 11.857 altitude corrected to 11.163 Best MPH on a time slip: 117.87 altitude corrected to 126.10 Altitude corrected rear wheel HP based on power to weight ratio: 476.5 Best 60 foot: 1.662 Racing at 3500 feet elevation but most race days it's over 5000 feet density altitude!
