swapping a 305 for a 305...really worth it?

I realize I might seem a little out of my league here, but I own an 87 Chevy Silverado. It has the stock 305 in it still, 135,000 miles, with the 700R4 tranny(a match made in heaven, right...) I got my hands on a turbo 350 tranny, and I'm excited because my tranny now slips like a b%&$h! Here's my question though. My friend tells me I can have his 305 out of his 91 Camaro RS(He's the reason i know about this site). So I'm stuck on if I bolt it to my engine, a new engine, or his 305. I was wondering if it was really worth swapping a 305 for a 305, or should I scrape the extra dough together for a 350...help is needed. Thanks guys.

well my opinion is if im going to pull my engine to swap basicaly for the same engine I beleive I would opt to go with the 350 but remember this, you will have to make mods from a 305 to a 350 as far as wireing goes in some cases, So 305 to 305 don't think so. hope this will help in your desision https://www.thirdgen.org/messgboard/wink.gif

No wiring mods for 305 to 350.

If there isn't anything fundamentally wrong with your 305, don't bother. I'm not quite sure what you're trying to "fix" - you mentioned tranny problems. I'm guessing you're talking about what to bolt the TH350 to. I'd recommend you seriously rethink your course, because a non-overdrive TH350 in a truck geared for an overdrive tranny is not likely to create happy memories.

Spend your efforts fixing your tranny. Sell the 305 and TH350 to finance the overhaul. Save the installation costs by pulling and installing it yourself. If you want, sell both 305's and the TH350, buy a 350 engine, put the overhauled TH700 behind it. That's a combo that memories could be made from.
