Car has 350 Been sitting for 4 years.

I bought a 84 firebird SE that has a SBC 350 750 CFM carb and busted 700r4 tranny. It's been sitting for 4 years doesn't run. I want to know what should I do to get it up to new. I already have a new 700r4 from an 87 GTA. The guy said it would run with the new tranny. What should I do to get all the "bugs" out? Take the engine out? Hone? Anything you guys would do? Thanks,

I wouldnt worry about the engine, just change the fluids and do a complete tune up and it should be fine. I would be worried about the fuel system though, the rubber lines could be cracked, the fuel in the tank if there is any is probably a thick sludge by now, and that is something you will want to try and clean out before it becomes a real problem.

Cleaning out the carb and rebuilding it might not be a bad idea either.

So How would I go about getting all the sludge out of the gas tank? Thanks.

My car sat for four years without running, outside, with four season changes every year. It had about 1/8 tank of gas in it. I just topped it off to dilute the old stuff, and it has been fine. I did, however, change the fuel filter after the first couple of tankfuls, just to be sure. That was two years ago.

Usually if your going to store an engine for 4 years or so you do stuff to it like shoot oil into the cylinders and turn the motor over w/out firing it up so that the walls get coated with oil and so on.

Once I let a 350 sit outside for about 2 years. It started and ran OK but the next day when I tried to start it again it was siezed solid. I ended up just scrapping the car and I don't know for sure if the seizing had anything to do with the storage but the motor ran fine before I put it away and I just figured I should have stored it properly because that's what I've always been told to do.

I'm not a mechanic and other people's experiance seems to be different but I'd want have look inside before starting yours up.
