I have a 84 chevy camaro which had a v6 engine and a 700r4 transmission. The v6 had a siezed main bearing.(so I was told) It made one heck of a racket and had no power and 177,000 miles as of 1998. I junked it. I have a chevy sbc 307 motor, the numbers say its a 1970. The bolt holes for the tranny are 3/8 by 16 thread. The 700r4 had metric bolts. I have heard that there is a kit with a plate to line up sbc motors to use with 700r4 tranny's. Is this true. Also I have at my disposal a 350 TH transmission from a second generation camaro. If I use this what mods do I have to make to the driveshaft? Would I have to have a new drive shaft made? The car is dissassembled and on jack stands. Accept for the Glass. No suspension, nothing: So I can make any changes necessary and I have no time restraights. I plan on the car to be a daily driver so I'm not worried about horse power.

It's a V6 to V8 swap, first and foremost. So, read that sticky.

You can bolt a Chevy V8 (or 4.3l V6) pattern TH700, or a TH350, or any Chevy V8 pattern transmission to the 307 using the SAE bolts. No adapters needed.

There are swap transmission crossmembers for the TH350. A good choice would be the Spohn version (see Board vendors) combo crossmember and torque arm that mounts the torque arm to the crossmember. Kills two birds with one stone.

For the driveshaft, either have a longer one made, or use one from an '82 or '83 3-speed auto or 4-speed manual transmission. They are getting harder to find, though. This is assuming your TH350 is the 6" tailshaft version (which I think 2nd gen Camaros used). Or buy one from Spohn.

That sounds a lot cheaper than what I was told! I also do have some chevy sbc's at a freinds garage that I can cannabalize for the brackets for engine accessories. This 307 has a carbuerator. This engine has only a few emission controls and here in NH since it's OBD I I don't have to worry about restoring any of the 84 emission components. Just basic: PVC, O2, CAT and EGR (if replacement engine had one) Can I use the original V6 harness for the TAC and Coil? The original engine had a HEI with a coil mounted separately on the block. Or would I have to change the signal wire connectors? I labeled all connectors when I removed them and have wiring diagrams for both the V6 and V8.
