Hi from Manchester,England.

Please could you tell me what the difference is in installing and what parts/ mods are needed to put a post 86 crate engine in a1982 z28 Camaro. It currently has the factory 305 with a 3 speed auto and magnaflow exhaust. Any recommendations for which crate engine, which headers to use, ignition upgrades etc wil be very gratefully received.
I will be running on a limited budget so I'm not looking for a complete car rebuild just to accommodate a huge engine, just more power for my daily driver and so I can have a little sideways fun on the way to car meets!
Also which exhaust cutouts do you recommend as there are lots of people over here looking for some but there is a lot of cheap crap advertised on EBay UK.

Buy a GM goodwrench 350 period correct replacement for around $1500 here. Put a lil warmer cam in it and you will have 75+ HP over the tired 5.0 and a drop in no hassle replacement.

Is this a pre 86 engine?
I can get a 250 or a 290 bhp pre 86 engine from a couple of suppliers in the UK and I think this is probably the easiest route to go down.
I was just wondering how much was involved in having a post 86 engine as there seems to be lots more of them available with lots of different power outputs for not much more money.
I love the prices of stuff in the US as a $1500 engine will cost me almost $3000 here. Unfortunately for me that's the tax, shipping cost and import duty on top of the price. Anything small and lightweight tends to make its way to me via people's suitcases returning from holiday!

Main differences will be, the crank flange will have a different bolt pattern, and the flex plate or flywheel will have to be changed to the 86-up version; and if the heads are 87-up, the angle of the center 2 bolts on each side will be different, requiring a different intake manifold or modification of your existing one.

If memory serves, the low-HP fleet replacement 350 is entirely pre-86.

I'm pretty sure I'll go for the pre 86 option as it looks like a straight swap and best value for money. Maybe in the future I'll buy or put something more powerful into whatever vehicle I have.
