Lt5 swap on third gen

I currently have a perfectly good running ls1 swapped third gen. I was recently offered a lt5 engine from a (94 ZR1) complete with harness and accessories except the ecu and exhaust manifolds and no trans. So I’m digging up as much info as far as this swap goes. I can do all the fab work. I just can’t find info as to what it takes to mount my (ls1 t56) to this engine or do I need to go with a ZF6 trans? And also I’m wondering about the a stand alone harness for the thing I have the original engine harness for the LT5.. and info and help is appreciated thanks!

I have a 90 ZR-1 and most of the pieces to put a spare engine together if I had to. I could probably hook you up with the people that could help you get the conversion done but it will be a PITA. GM did that purple and white one and they are one of the coolest looking engines ever made. I wish GM would have kept them and advanced them. They are truly an amazing engine but a bit pricey. I've had mine ported and some other stuff done and if they would have made a supercharger for one it would have been unbeatable. Again, I thought about doing it and I know most of the people who can help you get it done. One guy has a 4l80e put in his car so you can use a different trans. Watson makes headers for them and Greg VanDeventer builds the engines and is a good friend of mine. A guy named Bill Kirchoffer out of Louisville, KY can help with a lot of it and a guy named Mark Haibeck is very knowledgeable. You will need a good strong rear also so I would go to www.autoweldchassis.com they can hook you up with a Ford 9 and crossmember that will hold a 4L80E. If your serious I can try and get phone numbers for these people. You haven't lived untill you shift an lt-5 from 7500 and heard what they sound like. Mine is ported and around 450 at the wheels but it is a very different engine and so awesome looking.

Re: Lt5 swap on third gen

Did whatever you were offered, involve THE WHOLE CAR, and of course, EVERY SINGLE PIECE of LT5??? Because if it didn't, your car will NEVER move again under its own power.

Phenomenal motor and all that; just, ... COMPLETELY non-serviceable in 2018. Nothing is available anymore if it's different from any other more ... garden-variety ... sorta motor.

LOOK UP all possible replacement parts before you do this. Every bolt, every bracket, every electrical part, every every every every every every. Because if you don't get it as part of whatever gets delivered to you, you will NEVER be able to get it any other way.

I think maybe, ONCE, maybe, way back in the day when there were still acoupla those things still hanging around still in wrecked cars and still complete still unmolested still un-wore-out, somebody got their swap-in to START. Not sure the car ever drove again but at least it ran for some short interval.

THIMK wizely before you leap on this.

Keep in mind you can go to yer local buzzard nest and gank a LQ9 outta some suburban soccer-mom zumba queen's Escalade that she wrapped around a telephone pole one night when she had a few too many "mother's little helpers", for around $1600 or so, port the heads and stick a cam in it, and get the SAME 450ish RWHP; and have something you can ACTUALLY DRIVE on a regular basis even if you're not some kinda oil sheik or something.

I understand what you mean. My car currently has a Ls1 t56 and is running perfect heads and crammed making 430rwhp great cruiser don’t get me wrong. I got offered this lt5 complete with everything and is in great shape. I posted some this and maybe I can finish this lt5 swap with everyone’s help and experience. I can do a lot of the fab work but my biggest hurdle right now is the electronics to run this thing. It’s not about what makes more power for me it’s about being unique and this thing is a trophie

One or two others have attempted this, not sure if they finished them. If you can get everything complete and aren't scared of fab work then go for it. It's essentially a SBC V8, sorta. Otherwise you might be better with what you have. Headers will be a pain as well as wiring but that hasn't stopped anyone before. abray1 sounds like he might have some connections on parts which is always good. At the end of the day it is your time, money, and car so you do what you want with it.

Here a thread about the one that was started:

Bringing this one back from the dead. I’ve been busy working on it and finally able to drive it around town. I’m still working on a few things before I actually take it on the road. I will share some more pictures once I have it complete

awesome work! the LT5 is so cool, looking forward to more pics. Not sure if you've seen it already, but this user completed a full LT5 swap and may be a good resource if you still have issues to work out! https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/memb...iroc-vert.html
