3rd Gen fuel tank swap / upgrade
 

Hello,

I am putting together all I need to do a LS3 swap on my 1983 camaro. With that said, I believe a swap to electric fuel pump is a must. With that said, it looks like you can swap a 2002 plastic fuel tank from a 4th gen into a third gen and solve several problems at once, fuel pump, access, and modern GM quick disconnect fuel lines. Anyone know if this tank will fit? Thanks Dave ladn4b@gmail.com

Yes I have a plastic tank from a 2000 firebird in my 1989, the only pain is the fuel sender is the wrong range. You can use a sender board from a Grand Prix in the original pump housing design. But in some of the new redesigned replacement pump housing this no longer works. There are interface boxes you can buy that you program the input range and the output range so it keeps the gauge working.

The only other custom work is mounting the fuel filler neck.

The one thing many forget is it has the evap and vapor canister on top of the tank. If doing a LS with a factory PCM I would let the PCM operate this. If not this is something to solve.

The benefit is with a separate filler neck its much easier to take in/out.

If your car was a TPI v8 to start then that pump will drive the LS engine, all you need to add is a regulator -- most use the vett filter/regulator combo part

have all the info, thanks I received confirmation as well via a youtube vid producer. looks like a Plastic tank is next on the agenda.

Just did a similar swap. Used the complete 4th gen tank and lines up to the fuel filter. The stock feed line tire right into the filter.

All I had to do was wire the 4th gen fuel pump to the 3rd connector where it plugs in stock. The colors are the same. The 4th gen pump will have an extra ground wire, just the that in with existing ground.
