1989 camaro rs 305 TBI to 350 TBI

Hello everyone. I just have some general questions. My 305 just had its rings fried and the price they quoted me for the rebuild make me want to reconsider and swap for a 350. Here's the thing. I dont want to do an ls or lsx. I'm all about simplicity and less headache. From the research I have done. A 305 and a 350 small block are virtually the same exterior wise and dimensions except the displacement which makes me confident that all the brackets and smog equipment and manifolds and my 700r4 tranny would probably fit including my tbi unit. My general question is that since it's a computer controlled tbi, would the prom have to be reprogrammed to compensate for fuel or o2 sensor threshold needs to be adjusted. Stuff like that to avoid a constant check engine light and performance issues? I'm not looking to build a racecar but I've heard that 350s are more reliable than the 305s.

Same outside dimensions. You need to look at if the 350 is a one piece or two piece rear main seal. This will determine what flywheel is used and if you need to modify the 4 inner holes of the intake manifold to work.
Yes you should get a prom and larger 350 injectors. Rock auto has a good deal on the injectors just lookup a 87/92 k or c Chevy truck. Or use standard products tj7t . Othing makes a 350 more reliable. It’s just a smaller engine cid wise.
