cut out question is there any certain spot along the intermediate pipe to put a cut out where is wont be as loud as other or will it be just as loud no matter where the cut out is placed. |
If you put it behind the cat it won't be as loud, but then you're sacrificing performance. That is if you have a cat... |
PUT IT BEHIND THE CAT!!!! when i went to get mine put in the shop where i went missunderstood what i said and put it in in front of the cat, in the Y PIPE... and it sounded like Sh*t... it was absolutely too loud... and didn't sound good until i got in the 3000 RPM range... behind the cat will sound better and now be as loud... i have heard them behind it in the middle of the intermediate pipe... i like the sound.... IMO |
Don't be gay, put it in FRONT of the cat. Cut-outs are for hard core racers. If you want it to sound pretty get a hooker cat-back. |
Cut outs are meant to be installed as close to the header collectors as possible. The purpose of having them is to bypass all of the exhaust system to rid any restriction from the engine's ability to breathe, why would you want to put a cut out after your cat?To each their own,it's your car..but I would always prefer to have it before any exhaust (cats or mufflers) to free up as many ponies as I can.Granted a stock cam with open headers (or worse yet manifolds) doesnt' really sound good at all till you get a little rpm's in the engine.I installed mine in place of the long deceased cat.It is usually open more than closed..love that cam thru open tubes. |
putting it behind the cat defeats the whole purpose. they are made to cut off the whole exhaust for maximum performance. |
well my cat is hollowed out, i was wondering if it was put a little futher down steam on the exhaust maybe it would not be quite has loud. i have driven the car with the cat back removed and the hollowed out cat and it was way to loud, so i thought maybe with it further down steam and the exhaust gases having to go through 3 more feet of pipe it might muffle the sound some what. so my question is, will it? |
I wouldn't think it'd be enough to notice. |
Here's another question about a cut out.. I think in PA here, your car won't pass emmissions if you have a cut out, even if it's not open. How are you guys passing emissions? |

I have mine under the passenger seat. http://www.bhstreets.org/pix/ExhaustCutout/DSC00106.JPG http://www.bhstreets.org/pix/ExhaustCutout/DSC00107.JPG |
If you need a sound clip here you go :lala: http://www.bhstreets.org/movies/movies/88iroclaunch.wmv |
yeah... that is where i wanted mine put... under the car right under the passenger seat... i think it sounds awesome right there... its is loud but not open header loud.. but has the same raw sound to it!!! |
I want to get cut outs on my Camaro when I get one. I thought that I had heard or read about electronic cutouts somewhere, can someone enlighten me on this subject.(If they do make electronics) |
Mine is also under the passenger seat. It sounds awesome... but a bit too loud for cops. I will be investing in a MPPII this winter. |
what is a MPPII? |
McCord Power Plate Two |
Try www.quicktimeperformance.com/qtec.htm for electric cutouts. They are high though. Makes getting under the car to open them up a little easier. |
my brother has a cutout on his ford thunderbird turbo coupe, he just takes out the cat and bolts in the cutout; sounds real mean at any rpm, all you can hear is the turbo spooling :D |
