350 with 305 heads What exhaust do I get with a 350 with 305 heads? |
Re: 350 with 305 heads It would still work with your factory exhaust or headers 305/350 heads are the same casting as far as basic functions for exhaust flange, bolt pattern, etc. But a 305 head can have pretty small combustion chambers from what Ive heard. so I would check that to make your you not at like 14:1 compression |
Re: 350 with 305 heads Which headers would be the best? |
Re: 350 with 305 heads Its hard to say which headers are the best. I have the headman shorties with a headman y pipe. seem good. Ive heard great things about dyno dons headers. I would get a pair but I dont have the funds right now. But its up to you on what your trying to do/Do you want it to pass smog/What are your future plans. Just do some research and buy some. |
Re: 350 with 305 heads I'm swapping the 305 out with a one piece 350 block and keeping the 305 heads and putting it in the camaro... Trying to figure out what headers to get so that they will fit engine and the camaro. |
Re: 350 with 305 heads Again - your missing the most wonderful aspect of SBC .... PARTS ARE PARTS! There's no difference in the physical head dimensions of a 350 head or a 305 head - it's all the same! Heads are heads (on the outside). All headers, manifolds, etc. for a SBC will fit all SBC's, whether it's a 283, 302, 305, 307, 327, 350 ... and whether it's A 1963 motor, a 1979 motor, or a 1992 motor. You just need to order headers for a 3rd gen camaro - as the headers need to be specific for the car so that they fit within our cramped engine bays. This is why we always tell 305 guys to spend cash on exhaust first - because it's some thing that will transfer to a 350 later. {disclaimer} OK - I exaggerated a tad here - there are head-specific manifolds on out cars - 1992 TBI manifolds will not interchange with 1985 carb manifolds (at least not on pass side) - there is one bolt hole off at the rear - don't remember why. But, headers are a bit different and won't be any issues with them. |
Re: 350 with 305 heads :yup: |
Re: 350 with 305 heads What would you guys recommend for my car then? Not wanting to spend thousands for the headers... What would you guys recommend and where do you recommend getting them? Because of the underbody I'm wanting go with a single exhaust from the Y pipe back to a muffler then split out to two tailpipes.. What size pipe do you recommend? Thanks for all your help? |
Re: 350 with 305 heads Do you need smog or no smog (the air tubes)? |
Re: 350 with 305 heads cant go wrong with hookers shortys look up at summit 160 for black and 389 for ceramic coating |
Re: 350 with 305 heads a good quality short header and matching y pipe to fit these cars are fairly inexpensive and easy to find and like its been said there is no diffrence in the 305/350 in a way that will change the way the exhaust fits. a good 3in mandrel bent exhaust system is easy to come by also i vote for magnaflow :) |
Re: 350 with 305 heads Not only do iron 305 heads have smaller combustion chambers, but they also have smaller port volumes and smaller intake valves than 350 heads. You're giving up a lot of flow by using 305 heads on your 350. Look around a bit, I'm sure you can find someone seling their 350 TPI heads for cheap or even free. |
Re: 350 with 305 heads get anything but flowtech, they suck and are a really cheesy design, and try and get something with a y pipe set up i think you still acheive a really nice sound and performance without all the fabwork for tru dual IMO not saying it is in fact the best rout but it is reliable and easy to do |
