My cat converter

I have a 89 Camaro RS Coupe with a 305 engine. The heat shield on my catalytic converters welds broke and now it makes a rattling noise. I hated the noise and i couldnt use tin foil to hold it down cause it would dissapear after a ride. I used a binderclip for now and havent driven it yet but its working. Would I be able to use it for a month or so before I get the cat removed? Or any other bum *** ways of fixing the noise for now?

You can probably replace it for less money and trouble than "get removed". Especially since it's a Federal crime for a "shop" to "remove" one and not put one back. Those willing to go to jail and/or pay a high enough fine to bankrupt them personally and crush their business, are far and few between.

In the meantime how about just break the heat shield the rest of the way off, and then be careful about parking the car on anything that might burn, like tall dry grass.

Consider something you can easily do yourself such as https://www.summitracing.com/parts/flo-2010001/
