The core support, actually everything that deep down is the same from 82-92 for the Firebird and the Camaro. Technically it's a multi-piece composite that's welded together. I haven't looked recently, but a ton of the individual pieces are easy to come by as original GM parts or reproductions.

Dig around a bit, you can probably come up with the parts you need to repair what you've got, and because they're smaller than a breadbox before it's all welded up, shipping shouldn't even be a big deal.

Ok thanks guys maybe I should just disassemble what I have and straighten everything?

Re: LF 87 firebird core support

If you can, I'd try to pull it close all as one piece. Save cutting all the spot welds as a last resort. When all the parts are free and not restrained to their related corresponding parts, it get's difficult to see how far off the are, or how they need to be adjusted. At least to my eyes, the interfacing bends and whatnot in the parts are rarely flat, square, and perpendicular. You might have a small part that is bent that you wouldn't notice if it were free from the larger assembly. But then I'm a rank beginner with body work, I just like hunting for parts. ;)

Re: LF 87 firebird core support

I think I'd be looking for #47 in the diagram. #48 can probably be worked with hammer/dolly to look decent and straight without replacement. Click the link I posted above under the exploded diagram, and it should open a page with a few thumbnail images of pages with all the key numbers and part numbers. Find #47 in the list, and take the 8 digit GM part number, and search on Google and Ebay, it might take a little digging but it shouldn't be impossible to find. Alternatively you could find a donor car, and drill the spot welds, and salvage the full piece, then plug weld it into the car. Certainly not impossible, just time consuming.

Good luck!

eBay item number: 223484642736 - GM New Old Stock

Rock Auto used to carry a pile of reproduction stampings for collision parts, but in the past few years they've dropped most of those things. But dig around a bit, Summit, Jegs, Classic Industries, probably plenty of other places than Camaro Central that carry an offshore replacement.

If you need just that top rail I have a clean rust free one here. I had someone else that needed the bottom half. If you are interested, shoot me a message and I will get you pics of it.
