Iv been procrastinating on fabricating a set tanks... so i decided to try and make some out of PVC...

Drilled and tapped and fittings installed tubes got painted.
These tanks can hold over a quart of fluid.

Installed, I used some single side foam adhesive strips where the tubes might come in contact with surrounding metal. zip tied in place they don't move at all.

Needless to say these are now my new tanks...
As far as the the top plastic cover goes i already got that figured all post about that later on

I always like seeing someone fabricate something useful out of commonly available items. I assume the screw top lid is how you fill it. How hard is it going to be to access when it needs to be filled?

A couple of hose clamps would be a better job of securing it than plastic ties.

Me either but they will do for now. I was planing on getting some hose clamps but no one had large clamps.


Yea there both screw top lids. As far as filling go's its going to be super easy and simple and all post later on about the plastic cover.
Hose camps would be cleaner and stronger but seems the ties work just fine all probably add clamps later on.

Been a while since i have seen that filler pannel in a car. Always amazed me these cars don't over heat with that pannel right in front of the rad.

Mine has been gone for so long now. Interesting. Might need to copy you on the coolant side. Great idea.

At first all white, I hated it. All black, love it.

Looks good. Alot of folks think there needs to be something special, or a certain size for overflow, which is not the case. I've seen plenty of folks use their fav 16oz beer can as an overflow with simply running the tube into the top - as long as the tube stays at the bottom, the suction that occurs with cooling fluid will still occur.

I swapped to carb, and thus removed my evap canister. Thus I grabbed a brand new Ford Explorer overflow/washer fluid tank for $30 and installed. It's almost exact dimensions of the battery, and serves both needs in one reactangular unit that is symmetrical with battery on the other side. I just spliced my washer pump wires into the ford washer pump pigtails, and rerouted my overflow hose under the plastic cover to the pass side. You can see part of it here:

The factory design works pretty well and all the peace work in conjunction with each other. If your worried about the pipes color they do make black ABS pipes and fittings but there not as strong as PVC. You would never see these if i left them white anyway its just a finishing touch.

Where/How did you hook up a windshield washer squirter motor? Looking through the thread, I saw no pics or mention of it.

Mine is mounted on the bottom edge, kinda "plugged into" the washer tank, so I don't see a way it could be used on a PVC pipe.

IIRC, lots of thirdgens (maybe just the older ones?) have the squirter pump on the wiper motor.

I like it.

The only problem I have is that PVC is designed to only 140F.
You will probably never have a problem though. But that is just something people should consider.

How it that simple? The stock pump piece is black plastic & your circling a brass 90 degree fitting. :confused::confused:

I've always thought this would be a good container for that sticky traction stuff at the track. Run the outlet hose to a T-fitting & aim each hose output towards each rear tire. Or just water/bleach for burn outs! :lol:

I noticed in my pics (look in the lower right) last night, that my daughters 89 RS has the same style pump. So it couldn't be "older ones" as an issue, since hers is newer than mine is.

look at the pic below the first one with the circled brass fitting. You can see the stock pump a rubber hose and the brass fitting that i circled in the first pic sorry i didn't explain it but like i said its simple.

As far as sticky traction and other chemicals go i have no clue if the pump will work or last but there cheap so its worth a shot to test, which reminds me i have heard about some 60s cars that had bleach bottles and a push button on the dash to spray the rear tires for better smoke during burn outs im not sure if that was aftermarket, factory or a deal option i never cared to research it.

GM has put to many different style whipper motors / washer systems in these cars

I'm confused. You say it has the washer pump on the wiper motor, but I see the same configuration as my '88, with the washer pump on the reservoir!

I think it is the older ones that have the pump on the wiper motor

According to my camaro part and Illustration book 84 - 87 have the washer pump attached to the whipper motor.

wondering about using PVC for overflow tank on a daily driver... i doubt the PVC would withstand the heat for a decent amount of time. correct me if i'm wrong.

Great job man, love the clean engine bay look. Been trying to find new factory overflow and washer tanks, after this maybe ill just do away with them and do something custom.

i like the idea! the only thing i might have done is, fab up some aluminum brackets so that if someone do look it would look nice, but thats a great idea!

I built a rectangular one for a friends 91 stang with a big block, the aluminum was free compliments of works scrap bins but after all the an fittings and filler neck and what not he was into it almost 90 bucks

They are 4". I can't recall but around 20 or 30 bucks.

For the top cover i am thinking of adding push clips but just for aesthetics they wont do anything since they will be cut on the back side and plastic welded on, then im thinking of using velcro to keep it planted easy to take off if i need to access or add fluid...
