Share your CAD designed parts Thought I'd share part of the console buildup I started working on today. Got some spare time at work to play with Solidworks and started roughing up some console parts for my car. The first is a manual shift plate to be machined out of aluminum (either to be anodized or painted) I was wondering if anyone else had interior (or whatever) stuff that they have modeled in cad. Here is a screen capture of the shift plate I am working on, and if anyone wants the file I'd be happy to offer it (or PDF prints) over to those looking to fab their own shift plate. The model here is not done, but I plan to add a couple holes for switches in place of the ash tray as well as a ridge and tapped holes to mount the shift boot. http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5276/...8076aa3678.jpg |
Re: Share your CAD designed parts This is a great idea to for a thread for people to post designs. I made up some RS emblems but I want to cut them first before I give them to anyone to make sure they work ok. subscribing |

Re: Share your CAD designed parts 6 Attachment(s) |
Re: Share your CAD designed parts 4 Attachment(s) Attachment 389603 Attachment 389604 Attachment 389605 Attachment 389606 Anything technical should first start with a drawing/model. Much easier to tweak CAD than steel, plus you get a rough idea of what issues you may run into with the project, i.e. fitment |
Re: Share your CAD designed parts 1 Attachment(s) That depends on how you work and what you're working on... I've built a lot of very complicated things with a just a "it will go there" or a back of the napkin sketch. I've also decided to do the cad thing for some relatively simple assemblies, for example the lathe stand I built: https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/atta...1&d=1309484521 |
Re: Share your CAD designed parts 2 Attachment(s) Here is a strut tower brace that I recently designed in 3D CAD. I can provide native Inventor 2011 files or .sat, .stp, .igs format as well. |
Custom Instrument Panel 1 Attachment(s) Here is an image of the Camaro instrument panel that I have designed. It uses 3-3/8" Speedo & Tach plus 2-1/16" Temp, Oil, Fuel, Volts & Indicators. Let me know if anyone would like the 3D CAD. |
Re: Share your CAD designed parts start a solid works class next week, Ill also have to be on second shift. Nobody their. access to Mills, Lathes, and welders o my.. nice work.. |
Re: Share your CAD designed parts Solidworks is awesome... Just got an inquiry of someone looking for a speedo template to cover their stock gauge with. Figured I'd post it up on this thread if anyone wants to try it. Fun messing around in Photoshop to fill it in. http://www.flickr.com/photos/53106660@N03/8360181500/ |
Re: Share your CAD designed parts nothing to cool, just the turbo headers for my Fiero, still need to do the flanges though. http://i473.photobucket.com/albums/r...eaders/68b.jpg |
Re: Share your CAD designed parts |
Re: Share your CAD designed parts Very very cool. What setup will you be running (turbo, internals?) I've always loved the Fieros. |

Re: Share your CAD designed parts Anyone have a drawing of a SBC header flange? Have a friend with a CNC plasma and I'm prepping to build a set of turbo headers. :burnout: |
Re: Share your CAD designed parts Does anyone use inventor? At school in my C.A.D class with have inventor 2013, he hasn't let me designed any car parts on it though lol |
Re: Share your CAD designed parts Considering I use Solidworks at work and I work for Racecraft I have lots of fun stuff that I can't share. :lmao::burnout: |
