Newbie Welding/Fab Question...

Hey guys, a buddy and I have been doing some basic welding and fabbing on an old Jeep CJ of his, and my skills are getting better, and he's pretty darn good. We've decided to tackle a few suspension parts for my Iroc, really for no other reason than to see how they come out, because honestly, it's been a lot of fun working on the jeep! We didn't have to drill and tap anything for the jeep, but for me, I'm going to use a few rod ends. On all my existing aftermarket suspension parts, and in all the pics I can find, it appears that the threaded end is tapered a little bit, and welded to the main tubing. What IS that piece? Can you buy those ends threaded? Are they made tapered, or is that done by the fabricator just for appearance, and then tapped after? I'm looking to source all my materials, and I'm just curious as the best way to make those end pieces.

...in the close ups shots of the rod end/strut tower pics, you can really see what I mean.

Thanks!

Google "tube adapter" along with the thread and tube size and you should come up with some suppliers.

ballistic fab is a great supplier for those commonly used fabrication parts like tube ends and shock tabs, although they're market is the 4x4 world. http://www.ballisticfabrication.com/
