Fabricating a receiver hitch for 86 TA 1 Attachment(s) It is going to make life much nicer to have a hitch, one attachment that will be well used is a rack to carry bicycles, going to school for the next 4 years I need to keep costs and # of vehicles down so having the capability of hauling a utility trailer will be awesome. But did you know that you actually can haul 4' x 8' sheets of plywood in 3rd gens? This will be total fab except for the receiver tube. I am thinking U shaped brackets where the 4 bumper bolts on each side and welding 1/8" plates on the unibody running along where the holes are, maybe a foot long so I have something reasonably solid. Anyone have pics of nice solid 3rd gen hitches? |
Re: Fabricating a receiver hitch for 86 TA 1 Attachment(s) This is the trusty steed. Bought last year for $1,000, had new tires and 125k, mechanically well maintained, body and interior not so much. |
Re: Fabricating a receiver hitch for 86 TA I have a hitch for a thirdgen |
Re: Fabricating a receiver hitch for 86 TA Take a look at this: https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/fabr...r-hitches.html Since I bought it and installed it I can say it is a massive overkill one-off, far beyond the capabilities of the car itself. Seems to me it actually strengthens the car. |
Re: Fabricating a receiver hitch for 86 TA Back in 95 I bought a hitch for my 87 TA and towed 2 sport bikes to Myrtle Beach from north Jersey....with a 5.0 5-speed. Bikes, trailer, toolbox, and gear easily weighed 2000lbs. Didn't even send the temp gauge over 200°. |
